Dozens of protesters have gathered outside Dublin’s Custom House in the latest “yellow vest” protest in the city.

This is the fifth weekend such a protest has taken place in Dublin, sparked by similar demonstrations which started in France last year.

In a Facebook post, the group Yellow Vest Ireland listed a number of issues it is calling for action on, including citizen-initiated referendums, the resignation of Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, and an end to evictions. …

Interesting. They call themselves "yellow vests" but have different issues from the French counterparts.

The Irish version is far more Leftist where the French are mostly opposing Macron's "Climate Change" taxes.

I will never go there. The cliffs of Big Sur are physically more imposing anyway.

I will never go back to the land of my Irish family. They fought the Brits on and off for 800 years to practice Catholism
Won and threw it away in 100 years
These people make Michael Collins glad he is dead.

Well, the Catholic-Protestant struggle was for 300 years of that 800. The prior half-millennium saw the English kings champion and enforce Catholicism in order to rid Ireland and Britain of the remaining Druidic paganism; remember that it was the Papacy that gave the English king the title “Lord of Ireland”.

These were among the French protestors demands:

-Increase of 40% in the basic pension and social welfare
- Increase hiring in public sector to re-establish public services
- Massive construction projects to house 5 million homeless, and severe penalties for mayors/prefectures that leave people on the streets
- Break up the ‘too-big-to-fail’ banks, re-separate regular banking from investment banking
- Cancel debts accrued through usurious rates of interest
- The immediate cessation of privatization, and the re-nationalization of public goods like motorways, airports, rail, etc
- Mandate guarantee from producers that their products will last 10 years, and that spare parts will be available during that period
- Ban plastic bottles and other polluting packaging
- Ban on GMO crops, carcinogenic pesticides

Thank you for posting those - it's hard for us to get the real story about the issues that are inspiring the protests in France.

I have to admit I really like item#7:"Mandate guarantee from producers that their products will last 10 years, and that spare parts will be available during that period"

Can't tell you how many appliances I have bought that the manufacturer stopped providing spare parts for, right after I bought them. I won't buy anything Maytag/Whirlpool because of that company's policies.

“- Break up the ‘too-big-to-fail’ banks, re-separate regular banking from investment banking

What is wrong with this? What the banks have done over the past decade or so has done untold damage to the very fabric of society.
