A new city policy requiring public signs on brick buildings warning they might collapse in an earthquake is part of a long history of white supremacy aimed at forcing black people to move out of neighborhoods, the NAACP of Portland, Oregon, says.
The group on Thursday decried the policy affecting some 1,600 unreinforced masonry buildings that are on average 90 years old, many in areas with a predominantly black population, The Oregonian/OregonLive reports.
The policy “exacerbates a long history of systemic and structural betrayals of trust and policies of displacement, demolition, and dispossession predicated on classism, racism, and white supremacy,” the group said.
The NAACP said the policy will make it tougher for owners of brick buildings to get loans and will discourage investment. It says that means buildings will have to be sold, and that developers will demolish and redevelop, increasing the cost to live there and forcing current residents out. […]
City officials say the ordinance approved in October is part of an effort ultimately aimed at upgrading old buildings to withstand an earthquake, though seismic upgrades likely wouldn’t be required for at least 20 years. Such upgrades could cost brick-building owners millions of dollars. …

Many years ago I was told of the demolition of an old brick school in Fresno, Calif. When the wrecking ball hit the wall thousands of individual bricks hit the ground. The same thing would have happened in an earthquake. I doubt the bricks cared whether there would have been white, black or Mexican kids inside.

Before the Civil War, there were no complaints from black people in Oregon, because they were barred from entering the state.
2 years ago they upped the chance of the mega quake from 14%-17% in 50 years to 20%. Late last year, after a series of quakes, they upped it to the 50% in the next 50 years. That is significant.
Unfixed or not replaced, the Quake will condemn these buildings and anybody inside.
As a side note, chances of the quake hitting during a slow slip event are increased. A slow slip started may 8th 2018 and runs 14 months.
Earthquakes are racist too!
They are so stupid, the left has written them off as idiotic but a reliable plantation vote so now the Democrats are now importing their next slave class.
Many scientists seem convinced that Mount Tabor, a volcano right in the middle of the city and whose lava flows the city is built on, is extinct. Others say it’s merely dormant. If it erupts again, they won’t be worried about earthquakes too much, although those would precede an eruption.
