Even better, Tom Clancy.

I like Tom Clancy. He superbly writes the same novel over and over.

John Barth is a kaleidoscope. I give you Giles Goat-Boy, Sot-Weed Factor, Chimera, and many more.

Patriot was such a fabulous movie.

Did everyone catch the homeschooling scene? I didn’t at first. Had to be elbowed in the ribs.

To me the movie was only ok. I deeply objected to the pseudo-history!

You are correct. It is a fiction movie. Brits were quick to point out that history does not include a church full of revolutionaries being burned with the people inside. But that was included to make an important point: what happens to the soul when one becomes such a horrendous traitor. A less dramatic incident wouldn’t have made the point.

Gibson is a genius and used poetic license many times in that film.

Hunt for Red October, Clancy’s first, remains on my top all time list along with the Man in the Iron Mask.
Clancy is very much missed.

I liked the granularity of his writing. By that, I mean high level of credible detail where it felt like you were reading a documentary. He had high level military sources and it showed.

Traitors? I think I see the problem. Not one person post war was tried for treason. Davis wanted trial but couldn’t get one because the AJ thought he would lose.

It made reading Clancy very enjoyable. Far too many writers try to fudge what they don’t know and it is very irritating. I’ve thrown books in the garbage when the author had the wrong general at the wrong place at the wrong time. Some are even praised by the critics. Sickening.
Always enjoyed Alistair MacLean ….Guns of Navarone, Where Eagles Dare, South by Java Head, etc.
