Are Native Americans required to live on the reservations?
Then move, get a job, take care of yourself.

stop funding tribes. There is a welfare system in place. Individuals and families can go there as needed, If they want to have organizations and tribal activities they can fund it themselves. Hit me dealer.

The report made public Thursday is a follow-up to a 2003 report that described the shortfalls as a quiet crisis.

In other words, they only "study" this during Republican administrations.

Maybe I missed it but I see nothing about mineral wealth being ripped off from the tribes.

Reservation finances are almost always a mess. I grew up on the rez, and have always felt fortunate to have done so.

I’ve seen good tribal adminstration, bad tribal administration, even evil tribal adminstration. My hometown tribes are doing very well (speaking relatively) but that can change in a hurry.

My point has been that it is not always some monstrous white masters who are screwing the tribes over. Most often, these days anyway, it is corruption from within.

This is going back a few days but there is an article just up in the Billings (Montana) Gazette headlined: Crow Officials Can’t Account for $150,000 to Fight Meth.

I would post you the URL but the Gazette is nearly impossible to post from...you can google a version of the headline above to see the story.

Yes there are crooked politicians all over the place.

But the government regulations to prevent fraud often stop improvements to the hospitals, not to mention you have to spend lots of time doing the paper work to get people seen by specialists; in contrast, in private practice you just sent them and they are seen.

but the big problem is outside the hospitals, in stealing mineral wealth or underpricing what is sold, or in not forcing them to clean up their dirt.
