I had a ‘67 Beetle. The roof was a spider web of Bondo cracks. I think it had been rolled at some point. It also had a rebuilt engine...sucker would fly.
Stationed in Georgia in the early ‘70s, a friend with a fairly new VW tried to ford a flooded road. It did not float. Luckily, there were several of us in the car because we wound up pushing it awhile, trying to pop-start it. Finally got it running and it got us back to base. Car didn’t seem to suffer any lasting damage.
Yes, alcohol was involved.
Hitler wouldn’t like the red color.
Then why was the Nazi flag red?
You should’a called Isuzu inquiring about a similar program.
The VW engine fires were caused by the fuel line blowing off of the carburetor or fuel pump, dousing the distributor, which sat right beside it.
We worked on hundreds and it never ceased to amaze me how many showed up at the shop without clamps of any sort on the line.
Then there were the few years (late 60’s)that used magnesium engine cases. They just burn until they burn up.
Ever see the "gooseneck" travel trailer rig that used a roof hitch? I think this actually got past the prototype stage, though I doubt that many were actually sold.
For those of you who know VWs, the 1966 models had a 1300 cc engine, I think unique to that year. Earlier engines were 1200cc and later were 1500cc. From my personal experience that engine had ‘challenges’. I spent a lot of time with that engine on my kitchen table. Brings back memories.
Now THAT would’ve been great. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned, hands down. I wish I still had the old girl.
413,000 + miles and would’ve probably still kept going had I taken the time (and money) to keep her on the road.
