I find that difficult to believe, simply because anti-Slavic notions were so high in America on their own.
Watch any 1970s TV show. They couldn’t depict criminals as black, Italian meant ORGANIZED crime, and Gawd forbid a criminal not seem ethnic. So they were ALWAYS Slavic. Even about 80% of the criminals on Barney Miller.
Or nerds. Simply adding “-owski” to a name was Hollywood shorthand for nerd. Only when nerds started becoming ironically cool did they start having non-Slavic names.
“Compliance?” Poland suffered the worst death rate of any nation in World War 2, about 22% of the entire nation. That’s over 6 million in a population of 27 million; it would be like 70 million dead Americans. And we’re not talking from incidental causes, like famine. We’re talking primarily violent deaths. The German policy was complete destruction of Polish society; Pope John Paul II lived out a real-life version of Farenheit 451, memorizing Polish literature.
Not in England - it's all about Christmas. There's a lovely Nativity scene beneath the Christmas tree in my own small Derbyshire town. It's there every year.
I understand that they just let you out of the Soviet gulag and you did not have time to get acquainted with the latest history.
