Paying Just 2% (or less) of a $550 Monthly Premium ($11/Month) is Too Little

If you had to pay $11/month for unlimited health care cost coverage, you might think health care costs aren't a problem.

If you are a Democrat and had to pay $55/month for unlimited health care cost coverage, you might support efforts to rein in health care costs.

I believe, effective January 1, 2020, Section 36B(b)(2)(A)(ii) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 should read:

‘‘(ii) SPECIAL RULE FOR TAXPAYERS UNDER 133 PERCENT OF POVERTY LINE.—If a taxpayer’s household income for the taxable year is in excess of 100 percent, but not more than 133 percent, of the poverty line for a family of the size involved, the taxpayer’s applicable percentage shall be 10 percent.

it now reads:

‘‘(ii) SPECIAL RULE FOR TAXPAYERS UNDER 133 PERCENT OF POVERTY LINE.—If a taxpayer’s household income for the taxable year is in excess of 100 percent, but not more than 133 percent, of the poverty line for a family of the size involved, the taxpayer’s applicable percentage shall be 2 percent.

Democratic braying that a 10% general minimum policy buyer contribution is too much would not be well received by people who just paid $330/month, $440/month and $550/month.

Many low-income folks would continue buying bronze plans, with cost-sharing reductions, costing them even less than the 10%.

However, the percentage of Exchange buyers getting coverage cost-free to themselves should decrease somewhat under this needed reform.

The whole scheme needs to go. My insurance went from several hundred to almost $600, then to nearly $1,900 a month for so-call Bronze coverage with incrediblly high deductables. I then lost insurance because we couldn’t afford it. Now nine months without insurance.

I hear ya. Mrs rktman’s new for 2019 plan with hometown health/renown went from $708/mth to $836/mth. Of course had we stayed with my former employer it would be a measly $1,250/mth now. A silver plan with crap deductibles too. Me, VA and a Medicare supplement.

“The whole scheme needs to go.”

I don’t think a replacement system can be crafted in the few weeks Republicans will have control of the House, Senate and Presidency.

I think putting in some fixes for the worst faults is the best that can be done in just three weeks.

Stay healthy if possible.

Everybody knows people in Wyoming are twice as sick as the average.

This whole scheme of health care is a fraud. Best health care in the world. Bull.

Most expensive and just average after that. Who can afford the best? Very few. Who gets the best? The very rich and the very poor.

This country is pretty much bogus.
