Actress Gina Rodriguez is catching flack and being schooled by social media users after saying Black actresses get paid more than Asian and Latina stars.
As noted by atlantablackstar.com, during a roundtable talk with TV actress Ellen Pompeo, Gabrielle Union, and Emma Roberts, Rodriguez explained her fears and reservations with discussing the Hollywood pay gap.
“I get so petrified in this space talking about equal pay especially when you look at the intersectional aspect of it, right? Where white women get paid more than black women, black women get paid more than Asian women, Asian women get paid more than Latina women, and it’s like a very scary space to step into. Because I always feel like I fail when I speak about it because I can’t help but feel already so gracious to do what I do and I feel like, culturally, I feel like I was raised to just feel so appreciative of getting here.”
The remark left many fans, trolls, and online users feeling some way, and they rushed to the comments section to voice their issues.

Twitter users previously slammed Rodriguez for dismissing Black Women’s impact on films and TV — and she was called out for after minimizing the rape and erasure of African people in Latin America.
They should all be paid union scale like the rest of us.

Just amazing how many people — not just in Hollywood, but nationwide — identify themselves strictly by their ethnic group, as if that’s all they have. No smarts, no talent, no wisdom, no valuable experience.

How many times did this Gina Rodriquez use the word ‘feel’ or ‘feelings’ in her reply? Sometimes, what you say in your head needs to be edited or reshaped into what is said out loud.
This whole matter could easily be settled by a mud wrestling match between Gina Rodriguez and Oprah Winfrey. Winner take all.

Actors get paid for audience response, regardless of race or sex. It is very subjective and transient. You just know Denzel is going to make more money than Lena Dunham, because,...you just know. There is no way to create an objective pay scale for film or theater.
