Phil Mickelson claimed a thrilling play-off win over Tiger Woods in their controversial winner-takes-all $9million match at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas on Friday night. The victory came after 22 holes of finely balanced play between two of golf's greatest players and organisers even had to call on artificial lighting to ensure the game reached a conclusion in bitter cold conditions. Both players were miked up for the entire round, giving fans a rare insight into discussions between themselves and their caddies, but it was the unmistakable tones of Samuel L. Jackson introducing them that was the first sign of what was to come.

If Charles Barkley complained about the play then it was BAD.
NBC?
It was a pay per view backed by the Turner networks..
If only they had included Billie Jean King...
OK...I got caught up in the college
games yesterday...thanks.
Then, maybe, I'd have considered investing a couple of bucks to watch {DVR} it.
Nothing wastes more time than two guys playing golf alone. Four plus hours of dead air with 12 minutes {maybe} of action, kinda like pro football.
I didnt even know about it.
Good for Phil.
So what was to come that Samuel Jackson was the first sign of?
We always knew this sounded cooler than it would be. 2 guys just can’t be entertaining for 18 holes. Needed a foursome at least.
Amen to that - I remember some years ago when Michael Jordan was wondering what happened to Sir Charles’ golf game and they had footage of him doing some really far out contortions as his swing....one would have to work very hard to screw up a golf swing that bad.
Woods must be off the steroids. His arms look about like Mickelson’s now.
I watched this from hole 10 or so on pay per view.
It would have been awful if it had been done by a network with commercials
The broadcast was surprisingly good
Tiger and Phil displayed true gentleman behavior
The announcers used a little too much hype and cliche
Worth doing again. Solid B effort.
Yawn. Stretch. Yawn again.
Yep...el tigre doesn’t have his oversized Barry Bonds neck anymore and no more reports of ‘roid rage.
When I learned that it was streaming free, I started watching. That was at the 17th hole, where Tiger hit a great putt from just off the green to tie it up. The five adult guys who were at my house for a post-Thanksgiving meal huddled around my computer to watch the rest of it. While I have never played golf in my life (unless you count the kind with windmills where you might wind a free game at the end), I thought it was pretty interesting.
Then we all watched the West Virginia vs. Oklahoma slugfest. Yeah, there wasn’t any defense, but man those offenses have some great weapons.
Phil has been my favorite for years.
I never was a Tiger fan, and he certainly treated his wife very badly.
My gym had it on their giant screen tv. I assumed it was almost over when I arrived but they were only on the eleventh. I joined watching when they were at 15 and stayed until they had played one extra hole. By then I was bored and no longer cared who won.
Easy money for Phil so I’m sure he’s happy.
If it is on TV or movies, it is mandatory that Samuel L. Jackson make an appearance.
