I have read that you can plant a late crop of carrots, and then cover them with row cover/straw etc. To get an early crop in spring.
Carrots do not grow well in our soil, so I have no personal experience with this.
We won’t get a sunny day until Wednesday and even then it goes back to clouds or rain.
We are way behind on the leaf blowing and compost this year.
I have been sweeping patios like crazy.

I have been doing research on backup generator and power systems. Everyone around seems to just put in a Generac. However, I really would prefer something different.
For some reason, a wind mill is appealing, and given the MO. weather, likely better than Solar. I really am most concerned with making sure the well pump has a power source, although a tie in to the hot water heater would be nice too.

Our leaf color has not been as pretty as usual.

If they are still viable, pot them up in pots and put them somewhere cool and dark (not freezing!) for the winter months. Start watering and move them to light and warmth when your temps are consistently back above freezing.
You can STILL surround yourself with flowers next Spring. :)

Thanks for the ping always greeneyes! I’m getting ready to plant a vetch cover crop now that the garlic is planted and the potatoes are in the shed. Sorry I can’t post any photos but I have a pro coming over to see if he can recoverer the old ones and if not I will start a new Flikr account which I have done before. We picked 52 tomatoes from the tent greenhouse yesterday for maybe a total of 200 + for the season. (Not that great.) I have to say the weather has been just great for Oct here on Humboldt Bay...

Well, your tomato crop was better than ours. The local feed store had not vetch, so we got clove and rye instead.

I ran a “for sale” ad for the Norton and a day later, an Australian guy drove over and peeled off 10 $100 bills.
He had a couple of other Limey bikes in the back of a U-haul van and I asked him what was up with that.
He said he was crating them up and shipping them Down Under where he could triple his money. The UK had sent most of its bike production to the US and very few had been sold in Australia. The demand was based on rarity...
