Jackie Kennedy also had a big head compared to her body. I never saw her in person, just observing from photos.

When my kids were in college we would spend the Christmas vacation on St. Thomas. One year, Mitt and Ann Romney we’re in the room across from us on a two room floor. My husband had a very pleasant conversation with her. The next year we were on line behind Mitt at the airport. He was fascinated by my sons’ surf board bags. Thought they looked like body bags. Very pleasant guy.
Just had Nancy Pelosi on our Jet Blue flight to Fort Lauderdale. We were shocked she would fly with the unwashed masses.

William Devane looks like a Kennedy and I believe he portrayed one in a movie or TV show. Now he’s always telling me to buy gold.

I have a bunch but a couple are kind of funny.

I was at a Chiefs game and I went pee next to Steve Perry at Arrowhead Stadium in the early 80’s. Since there was no MTV in my town at that time, I did not recognize him. He walked out the door when I was washing my hands. A guy walked in and got all excited and said “Do you know who that was?” As the high school smart ass that I was I replied “some long haired hippie who doesn’t belong at a football game” and he said it was Steve Perry. Turns out that Journey was playing in town that night and the guy was going to the show. FYI, Steve Perry is really short.

I was walking to a Husker game in the mid 80’s from the bar I had been at most of the morning to grab a bottle of Jim Beam to spike my Cokes with. My brother and I walk up to get in line at the little liquor store attached to the bar we were at that was a few blocks from Memorial Stadium. In line in front of us was Governor Bob Kerry and Debra Winger, his girlfriend at the time. We chatted with them and they were very nice. I thought my brother was gonna crap himself. By the way Ms. Winger was stunningly beautiful in person. Standing and chatting with her, you could definitely see why she was a movie star. In my juvenile mind, all I was thinking was ‘I saw your boobs in an Officer and a Gentlemen” heh, heh, heh. (That was my best Beavis laugh)

I’ve got some other ones but those are my favorites.

I worked for most of a year with Oprah Winfrey in a Baltimore TV newsroom. She must have been 22-23 and was very bright. It was my job on the weekends to send reporters to cover local news stories to keep the news hole filed and she was almost always one of my two weekend reporters. She had an aversion to leaving the building and getting into the news van with the cameraman and tech and going to news locations like scenes of fires, shootings, protests, accidents etc. Sometimes it would take an hour to get her butt off the chair and into the van.

On the other hand, in the early ‘80’s there was a neighborhood restaurant I liked for its splendid prime rib and great martinis. The owner and maitre-d was Johnny Unitas who would personally seat us and bring me my first Tanqueray. What a humble gentleman.

My daughter and son-in law are friendly with Frank Gifford’s granddaughter and attended her wedding. My daughter met and chatted with Kathi Lee Gifford in the restroom. My daughter was also kissed by Paul Anka while he sang one of his songs to her. She was attending his concert at a theater in the round. The Temptations pulled her out of the audience and sang My Girl to her at the same theater.

General Stafford was a keynote speaker at an event I attended about 5 years ago. He happened to be flying on the same flight as I was the next day. At the gate, We started talking and he was interested in some current events that I was involved with and asked if I would save him a seat (on a southwest flight) so we could continue our conversation.

I’ll always remember that amazing flight and conversation. Here I was talking to someone who had orbited the moon. And that wasn’t even the most amazing part. He mentioned that his son was about to graduate from high school and attend SMU. I must have looked a little shocked so he told me that he and his wife had adopted 2 boys from Russia.

He was in his late 60’s when he adopted them! Wow! He was around 83 years old when our conversation happened and he was still working/involved with various projects. An amazing man! Hope I’m still going that strong when I’m 80+ yrs old.

The company I used to work for was run by someone who had been an executive with the Ottawa Senators during their first two or three seasons. Because of that, he knew Brad Marsh (the long time defenceman for Atlanta, Calgary, Philly, Toronto, Detroit, and then Ottawa for his last season and he was one of the last helmetless players in the league). Back some ten years or so ago, this boss of mine told me to go to the bar and grill Marsh ran at the time to help book the company Christmas party. So I got to meet Brad, a very nice and personable fellow. And then about a year later, I got to meet Brad again at a local golf tournament and he remembered me because of the party and the connection with the boss I had. One thing I remember about Marshy in person was the big, strong hands he had and what it was like to shake hands with him, lol.

At the same golf tournament, they also had Noel Price, who played in the NHL during the 1960s and 1970s, and I was lucky enough to have him in the foursome I was with. While certainly not of the same caliber as Bobby Hull or Phil Esposito or Bobby Orr or anyone else like that, Noel was filled with all sorts of neat stories about the game back then and the players and everyone else. BTW, the main celebrity guest was Yvon Cournoyer and I got to meet him and get his autograph. And he was a lot of fun as well.

Oh yeah and speaking of Pittsburgh I got stuck in traffic heading to a Doors concert, then noticed Jim Morrison was in the car behind me. Guessed I hadnt missed the start!

You can thank our geography-challenged Pittsburgh traffic for that one!

When Star Trek: The Next Generation premiered I got the strangest sense of deja-vu whenever Dr. Crusher (Gates McFadden) would come on screen. She seemed very familiar. I presumed I had seen her in some movie or something and just couldn't place her.

Years later I came across her bio and learned that she actually taught drama at the University of Pittsburgh in the early 1980's. I am now virtually certain that I was chatting with this woman in line at a coffee shop or Carnegie Library or someplace.

Strange how a face can stick in your head for many years.

Back in the early 1990s I stopped for gas at a local gas station in the town where I lived in New Jersey. Jackson Brown’s tour bus pulled up and the driver got out to ask for directions. They were doing a couple of shows at the Meadowlands and were looking for their hotel in the next town. This was before the days of GPS.

I JUST THOUGHT OF MR ROOROO’s AND MY PERSONAL ENCOUNTER WITH AL GORE, AKA THE GORON! LMAO!!

We were about to board a relatively small jet in Hartford, Connecticut. This was in the fall of 2001, after the SoreLoserman defeat in 2000. Suddenly, here comes The Goron at the last minute, pushing to the front of the passenger line with (what appeared to be) two Secret Service agents.

When we got on the plane, The Goron was sitting in first class with the seats all around kept empty. He was pretending to be reading a magazine. But he was actually holding the magazine up to hide most of his face, and the magazine was held to the side just enough so The Goron could watch all of us walk by with one eyeball. He really seemed CRAZY paranoid, pretending to read, but really just staring at everyone walking by.

Nobody acknowledged or said hello to him. After Mr. Roo Roo walked by the Goron, he said in a very loud voice, “Boy, I hope they have enough room in the overhead compartments for my LOCK BOX!!” I burst out laughing, I couldn’t help it. A couple of other passengers got the joke and giggled also.

Remember how the Goron campaigned against Bush about putting the Social Security fund in a “Lock Box”? LMAO

Okay, I admit, that was probably rude, but Mr. RooRoo and I couldn’t help ourselves. :0)

The same company, as per the first story I told here, built custom designed staircases for homes. We did a very decent business for a number of years in Canada, the United States, and Europe even. When Mike Fisher and his wife Carrie Underwood were living here (with Mike playing for the Senators), they had a nice new house built for them west of Ottawa and we were contracted to build the main staircase for them. As a result, our main install guy got to meet Fisher (and maybe even Carrie). Fisher was an average sized and looking person, and our install guy was a little surprised to see that compared to what you would see on TV with the games.

I think hockey players are the most personable and approachable athletes of all. A friend of mine in Alberta used to live in an Edmonton apartment building owned by Peter Pocklington, who owned the Oilers at the time. Many of the younger players on the team lived there, and he could spend hours telling stories about his encounters with them.

One Saturday morning he woke up to a commotion on the street in front of the building and in the lobby downstairs. The Edmonton police were tying up the loose ends from an incident in the wee hours of the morning. An Oilers player who shall remain nameless had started a scene in a bar up the street and gotten thrown out of the place. He tossed a garbage chair or piece of street furniture through the front window, then proceeded down the street toward this building where he lived ... and repeated the destruction at every storefront along the way.

My friend went out a few hours later and walked up the street. Every business along the block had at least one boarded-up front window. He knew which bar was the location of the original incident because that was where the string of boarded-up windows ended. LOL.

I was a teenager working early morning shift at a gas station in East Texas mid ‘60s, VW van pulls in about 6:30am, van has several guys in it plus bunch of some kind of equipment, one gets out and says fill it up. I’m not normally one to ask people who or what they are but for once I did. Was the Royal Guardsmen of Snoopy v Red Baron fame headed to do show in Dallas.

So did my late uncle. He did not take any guff and had no patience for self-important celebs. He once got into a fight with Andy Williams. And he went on to have an elevator confrontation with Yul Brynner which is still the stuff of legend in the local hospitality industry.
