Anger toward media spreads into local communities
Associated Press ^ | Oct. 29, 2018 8:33 PM EDT | David Bauder

The hostility she’s felt from the public recently wasn’t necessarily the last straw in television news photographer Lori Bentley-Law’s decision to quit the business after 24 years, but it was one of them.

Bentley-Law’s recent blog post explaining why she was leaving Los Angeles’ KNBC-TV hit home for many colleagues. While President Donald Trump’s attacks on the media are usually centered on national outlets like CNN and The New York Times, the attitudes unleashed have filtered down to journalists on the street covering news in local communities across the country.

When a president describes the press as enemies of the people, “attitudes shift and the field crews get the brunt of the abuse,” she wrote. “And it’s not just from one side. We get it all the way around, pretty much on a daily basis.”

The Radio Television Digital News Association is spreading safety and self-defense tips to journalists, most notably advising limits on the use of one-person news crews. The RTDNA has begun compiling anti-press incidents, like last week when an intruder was shot after kicking down glass doors at Fox’s local station in Washington. The National Press Photographers Association is developing workshops to spread safety advice to its members.

“The environment has changed,” said Chris Post, a photographer for WFMZ-TV in Allentown, Pennsylvania. “I’ve witnessed the transition.” …

More “blame Trump” for the trouble that the media has been getting long ago for their lies. They are still far more free and in less danger than under Obama.

Reporters have never been popular, especially after tragedies when they are intrusive & rude.

lol.

This article is so pitiful it’s funny.

I actually did LOL this time.

you can’t make this stuff up :)

The one sided nature of the msm has been PROVEN time and again by showing allocated minutes towards positive stories on Trump and negative.

And in other ways too.

"A 2012 Gallup poll found that Americans' distrust in the mainstream media was higher than it had ever been, with 60% saying they had little or no trust in the mass media to report the news fully, accurately, and fairly. Distrust had increased since the previous few years, when Americans were already more negative about the media than they had been before 2004.": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mainstream_media

Where the shill writes, "Trump attacks on media", read, "President Trump's responses to media attacks on him". And there's no hostility toward media, just media LIARS. Like the author of this swill.

Partisan Media Shills (PMS) update.

Non-Player Character (NPC) update.

LOL! The sole example they could find of a news outlet being attacked was a FOX NEWS outlet.

So we're to believe that some fan of Pres Trump took his "Fake News" message to heart and attacked a Foxnews facility?

LOL!

I personally put zero credibility on any news source that does not allow comments.

As a professional journalist what’s sad, to me, is the complete and utter erosion of standards in the trade that would have had something like this mess nixed by its first editor for both bias and self-pity at the desk level. There’s a reason these kids make the mistakes they do and take liberties with the truth. They never had to come up hard in a newsroom where truth and not a “narrative” are the only currency you, as a reporter, have. A place where respect is something earned, not just given.

ABC News still allows Disqus, but that doesn’t aid their credibility.

A couple of years ago, AP had their “Big Story” website and that also allowed Disqus. Did not boost their credibility.

“Or worse yet, to have the passenger in the vehicle pacing me hang their naked butt out the window and defecate. Yes. That happened.”

I LOL’d. Metaphorically, that’s a perfectly proportionate response to the fake news media.

One can only hope the defecator had projectile diarrhea.

Trump says repeatedly that Fake News is the enemy of the American people. It’s consistently translated into the free press is the enemy..., the media is the enemy..., or freedom of the press is the enemy. These are all deliberatly deceptive things, and very different from what was said. The result is people don’t trust the media to reliably differentiate between wiping their asses and parting their hair.

If a reporter, journalist, TV host is known for their fairness, accuracy, and professionalism, nobody is going to go after them, verbally, in print, etc, except some on the Left.

If they practice blatantly biased, inaccurate, and/or propagandistic leftwing BS reporting, then they are going to get criticized by sane people.

As a journalist of about 50 years, I was almost never criticized for my exposes by the Marxist Left. Usually it was a liberal with good intentions and no brains, though some liberals were just plain nasty stupid.

I welcomed their stupidity. It showed my readership just who these “liberals” ready were, bigots, halfwits, and enemies of the truth.

I once had a liberal opponent on an internet newspaper and we had a good time going after each other’s stories in a “gentlemanly fashion”. Only the editor didn’t like it. He dropped my 4 year highly rated column (one got 8,000 hits on his site and another 8,000 at FR, plus over 300 comments, and that was back in about 2009).

This editor, who was given a real shot in the arm re national circulation by his conservative writers, many of whom I knew, suddenly became a “progressive” and decided that he didn’t like what I was writing despite having done it the same way for 4 years.

OK. It was a good run. That is when I came over to FR where “the air is free and so is the space”. Haven’t looked back since.

Gee, and when the President talks about getting in our faces and cops get gunned down all over the country, what is that?

David Bauder is not correct. It started quietly in local communities. President Trump is only one of many leaders beginning to implement the will of the American people. I'm glad that people like David did not know that sooner.
