“Much like The Doors, Queen’s music was “Iconic”.

You’ve obviously never listened to LA Woman or Morrison Hotel all the way through on a good system.

The Doors were first rate musicians and songwriters.

No, not Beethoven. But neither were the Beatles or Stones.

I read recently there is some anatomical reason for his voice’s uniqueness.

The rest of the Doors, as a band, I have a lot of respect for. I imagine that Jim just came in and sh!t all over their good work.

I compare Doors to Yes. Both are similar styles, but Yes executed it 10 times better.

Queen and Jefferson Starship are also similar in styles and arrangments and again, Starship blew them out of the water.

I’m not like this with everyone, for instance Roy Orbison is similar to Elvis Presley - Elvis deserves every bit of recognition that he gets.

Pink Floyd wiped the whole chalkboard clean though, following up with a wet rag to completely re-create the entire genre.

Oh and don’t get me started on David Bowie !

This guy was just the worst. Even if you like it - like I do - the guy knows nothing of music theory.. Taking advantage of avant-garde and eclectic genres as a way to collect a paycheck.

I love 10,000 Maniacs and Natalie Merchant. I’ve met her, and helped out with lights at one of her shows. Strange woman, but other than that she is the flattest singer I have EVER heard. I mean, you have to try to be that bad. But for her, she makes it work.

Dunno. The music is great, I have all of the albums (Like I do with the Doors as well) but the key elements of many bands are really, really bad musicians with a ton of charisma.

That soundtrack introduced me to Queen, and through them abnormal music. And if you saw my music folder with the gb upon gb of Zappa and Prog and everything else non-commercial under the sun.. Very important album in my life, possibly the most important.

“I imagine that Jim just came in and sh!t all over their good work.”

And imagination it would be.

Morrison, the poet, also set the tenor of their music. For both his and Robbie’s songs.

Slow down, speed up. Can’t you add a minor cord? Make it sound lighter, happier, darker...more mysterious.

Of course he knew NOTHING about music. But he had a very clear vision on what he wanted his songs to sound like. And his baritone was as good as it gets.

All the rest of the Doors had to do was keep him sober. And they failed.

The Doors were as groundbreaking as the Beatles. And bumped them from #1 spots several times.

Yes was essentially a pop band.

They and the Doors share nothing.

Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to play the “warts and all” Freddie.

This looks like hagiography.

I remember when I was a kid I though “Killer Queen” was about a secret agent lady.

Anyone who didn't think Freddie was a poof after hearing Killer Queen, for the first time, needs their gaydar adjusted.

Saw 10,000 Maniacs at a New Years Eve party last year. She braved the 12 degree weather and small crowds, did ok, but, yeah, not a strong vocal talent.

Well, 10,000 isn't exactly a small crowd. ;)

I do not, but I might be able to find it. There were at least two about him and Queen that I watched. I’ll look.

Saw Night Ranger playing in a park along the boardwalk last year. Guy couldn’t sing worth a damn. They would have been better off picking someone out of the crowd to sing their big hit, Sister Christian, the fan would have got a kick out of it and it couldn’t have been any worse than the croaking the singer did.
