There was a Nickle Beer Day in 1971, sometime in June or July, iirc. It was my second date with Mr. RightField. His brother played for the Indians then. He and I met when his family came to see the brother play.
Several decades ago we went to the Sharpsburg Days festival held on the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. They do a nighttime battlefield tour which is very moving.
That year a cold drizzle was falling and as we took the tour we noticed that the Union troops outnumbered the Confederates by a wide margin. Curious but still very solemn and melancholy with the mist surrounding the reenactors.
Walking back to the B&B we saw that a local eatery was advertising, “25¢ beer nite”, so we went in. The place was packed with, “rebels” in full uniform and they said they thought the tour was cancelled due to the weather!
No wonder the South lost...
I would have been 17 (until the end of October).
Still a better idea than “Snow Tire Day.”
Years ago the Astros had several nickel beer nights in the Astrodome. They also had “foamers,” when an Astro hit a homer and the stadium clock was on an even minute beer was free until the ninth inning. Every time a long fly was hit, a stampede for the beer stand erupted just in case the ball went out and the minute was even.
