To the tune of Christina Perris A Thousand Years, a gay student at Valley High School in Santa Ana, Calif. asked his friend, the straight captain of the football team, to homecoming on National Coming Out Day. His friend said yes in order to set an example for the school and the community, according to Instinct.
Standing behind a banner that read I know I am gay but can I take you straight to homecoming, the gay student, Alexander Duarte, watched his friend Erick Pineda walk a gauntlet of cheering students toward him before Pineda agreed to be his date.
Earlier in the year, Pineda told Duarte, Yo, take me to homecoming. That's when Duarte knew he would have to step up the proposal.
For Pineda, saying yes to his friend meant stamping out stigma around friendships between straight and gay men.
Its very important for me to be going to Homecoming with Alexander because Im setting an example for not only my school, but also my community, Pineda. I was definitely excited to be asked to homecoming because I knew how important this was for my friend and seeing the support from the staff and students was amazing.
Im very grateful to be the captain of the football team. The team is very supportive and multiple teammates have approached me to congratulate me and have given me RESPECT for my actions, he added.
The two men, both 17, have come a long way since freshmen year when Pineda treated Duarte in a way he later apologized for, Duarte told Instinct. After agreeing to be Duartes date, Pineda reassured his friend that he had his back.
He [Pineda] also said that he loved me and that he will always be there for me if needed, Duarte said.

Puke
How long will God withhold his hand against us?
Politics ruins everything.
It’s one thing to be tolerant and courteous, but another to enable and endorse. This may score him points with mush-brained Leftists, but how could any red-blooded, non-cuck male really think this is cool?
I laughed, I cried, it became a part of me.
Mr Football can be denied employment because if hes straight, he cant claim hes being discriminated against
For better or worse, this is what Acceptance looks like. But they will not accept the Acceptance. They will never stop complaining of oppression and persecution and the pain of having to live in the closet.
They still think it’s the 1950s. Or maybe as late as the 1970s. But the oppression ended in about the 1980s. They love to wallow in the suffering, though. Here’s a tip Dearie: You never had to be in the closet, which is a good thing for you, since your closet has been totally filled with fabulous shoes since you were 6.
Ig he was truly this freak’s friend, then he would have set him straight with a punch to the snout.
Looks like cap might be perv himself.
BLEECCCHHHH
If that were the captain of my football team, I would lose respect for this puke for being a butt pirate supporter. Plus the ass muncher (just like any fag homo drama queen) made a spectacle of it to trap him into saying yes.
there are the only two guys that won’t get any at homecoming.
Set another example?
The proper response will likely get me banned here.
The ne homonazi, push is now if straight people perverts are attracted to wont date them, they are now hageful and homophobic.
We really need a major purge in this country, fast.
50-60% of the population, and I am fine with saying so. Truth is the truth. You cant change them, they dont want to change. Theyve had countless opportunities to turn away.
There are certain kinds of masks one can put on, but find it difficult to impossible to take that mask off. It’s more difficult for men to show that level of tolerance without people taking it for advocacy. For some reason, it’s not that difficult for women.
Going to play golf with him would be one thing, going to the prom on a date is entirely different.
It was Californicate ... he and his family could have been sued if he refused ... remember those Progressive judges on the West coast?
National Coming Out Day?????
maybe we should have national straight day...but that would be racist....or something.
