Oklahoma has made a change at defensive coordinator following Saturday’s loss to Texas. After multiple reports surfaced late Sunday, OU head coach Lincoln Riley confirmed Monday morning that Mike Stoops has been fired from his role as the Sooners’ defensive coordinator after Oklahoma gave up 48 points in the three-point loss to Texas. It was the first loss of 2018 for the Sooners and the second time in less than a calendar year that the Sooners had been blitzed by quality opposition.

Generally, throwing a coordinator under the bus will get you another season - or at least to the end of the current one.

Mike Stoops is/was a "special" case, in more ways than one. Now he can get on with life.
It's a good positive move in the right direction for everyone that actually should have been made back in January.
The heir apparent to the job, at least on an interim basis, (no official announcement yet) is a salty, experienced coach who knows how to handle players... what the situation needs right now...
Also speculation that the decision to not accept his resignation on Saturday but to fire him on Sunday came down from on high, and had something to do with his contract...
How many seasons have we lot games because of simple missed tackles. That’s Mike’s trademark. Not wrapping up. I guess 6 seasons now. Basic stuff.

Yeah, heard that at least one player had to be convinced to return to the field.

My speculation is that Riley referred the resignation to ‘on high’. Reasonable course of action.
