About 20% officially claim to be Christian. Buddhists and Balinese Hindu make up about 4%.
Wow. It seems when it goes bad for people in that neck of the world...it goes real bad.

I remember all the photos from 2004. A family walking out towards the water as the waters receded and then running for their lives.
Saw a photo of them a few days later and was so relieved.
Friends of ours were in Thailand somewhere when the water went out and their British waitress told them to run. They didn’t know why they were running but they went ahead and did it and made it to a hillside just ahead of the water.
They both said that people were just staring at them like they were crazy as they were running for high ground. Most of those people ended up dead.
I hope people this time had more sense.

Unfortunately, the Indonesian authorities lifted the Tsunami warning 34 minutes after issuing it which probably increased the death toll.
