And dystopian = rightist; utopian = leftist.

The first time I read that, it made my blood boil.

How I despise men and women like him. Over the centuries, they have been the harbingers of death and tyranny under the guise of benevolent rule.

And we see those sentiments more powerfully than ever.

They never learn.

After the Tet Offensive, I remember Cronkite saying there’s no way that we could win the Vietnam war.

May he burn in hell.....................

Sure as the Pope is Catholic....oh, wait.....

How can any Christian make the statement they wish someone would burn in Hell, and still maintain they are a Christian? Read the book of Jonah and remember how God feels about mortals making the decision about other mortals being too base and vile to deserve saving.....

Ironic is that he made a "if this, then that" quip mocking those who believed globalism ain't the way to go (which it isn't) and then go about the equating it (as with everything they don't like) with the devil.....yet, we have those here who will castigate the LSM for cherry-picking phrases out of context then turn around and mentally condemn souls by doing the exact same thing...

No love for Cronkite but also no tolerance for those who claim to be Christian then think they have the right to wish others to burn in hell.....what did Jesus say about tossing the first stone? Or is that part of the Bible that doesn't apply to some of us? Don't give Christians a bad name...you have too much to offer.

I grew up watching him as I ate dinner or supper depending where you live all through the Vietnam body count evening news

It’s funny the college radical left and their slightly older masters thought Cronkite was the establishment

Thst was a word used a lot then the kids versus the establishment

Crionkite was a lefty but this Satan joke is rhetorical not literal folks

And you didn’t have to be a lefty to want a world cohesive authority back then

Many of these folks had lived through WWII and their biggest fear is it’ll happen again and they thought a strong United Nations would prevent that

Doesn’t diminish that Cronkite was a red diaper grandpa

The only folks who virulently opposed such ideas were Goldwater types and the Dixiecrats for whom, this was a pillar of their ideology and of course Birchers and Buckley before he went soft

I think all of us, well most of us knew Cronkite was being rhetorical or maybe sarcastic to make a point.

It seemed to me that his wording was a bit ironic too.

“I’m glad to sit here at the right hand of Satan.”

He should recognize quite few of his cohorts.

It is important to note that the “fascist” countries of Europe in the 1930s were formed in reaction to threats of communist takeovers (as early as the 1920s - Italy and Germany were two early ones). The “Western democracies” offered no support for countries as their institutions came under attack by communist mobs controlled by Moscow determined to “fundamentally transform” them, eliminating their upper and middle classes - so they relied on their military to do so. The US in the end sided with the communists and consigned much of Europe to nearly 50 years of communist rule; now the “Western democracies” are attacking some of those same countries for protecting themselves from Islam.

We couldn’t even allow elections in the South due to the popularity of the communists; if the South couldn’t fight the war, how were we supposed to win it? While Tet was devastating for the communists, it was an indication that we were no closer to winning than the French had been.

FDR would’ve followed the leaders if war had not broken out.
