Sexually-transmitted diseases continue to hit all-time highs in the U.S. with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reporting a 10 percent spike for chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis in 2017. The federal health agency said in a report released Tuesday that the numbers, which include nearly 2.3 million new cases of the aforementioned diseases, reflect a “steep, sustained increase” in STDs since 2013.
“We’re sliding backward,” Jonathan Mermin, director of CDC’s National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD and TB Prevention, said. “It is evident the systems that identify, treat and ultimately prevent STDs are strained to near-breaking point.”
While primary and secondary syphilis diagnoses went up by 76 percent, chlamydia remained the most commonly reported to the CDC with nearly half of the new cases occurring in females ages 15-to-24.
The three highlighted diseases are treatable, but the report said most go undiagnosed, which can lead to infertility, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth and an increased HIV risk. The report noted that previous studies have pointed to poverty, stigma, discrimination and drug use as contributing factors.

Maybe sex should be regulated like tobacco, after all, many will use insurance to pay for treatment and, if you have an std, your behavior harms others (as opposed to “second hand smoke” which has trivial impact). Some stds even harm the unborn.
And no sex outside of marriage along with no divorce will cut stds almost down to nil.
If a girl has tattoos and piercing, its a good bet she has venereal disease.

Really? I did not know that.
It does lend credence to the theory that some of these diseases entered the human population by way of people doing unspeakable things with animals ...
That theory was mentioned in my quick search. However, many STDs are spread through contaminated blood, and there are a lot of ways humans could come in contact with animal blood. Similarly, we usually think of Hepatitis-C as sexually-transmitted, but it can be spread in other conditions of very poor cleanliness, such as in day-care centers.
