Columbus man's arms to be amputated after mauled by pit bulls

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A Columbus man has to have his arms amputated after being attacked by three pit bulls.

Forty-two-year-old Dudley Willis says he was walking home from the store last week when he was mauled by three pit bulls belonging to one the neighbors on the corner of 38th Street and Earline Avenue.

“He was left laying here in this area, just left laying out here. Nobody called for help or nothing. He was just left laying out here,” says his sister Alycia Willis.

Alycia Willis says he was left there for an hour and twenty-five minutes before being taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital.

“The hospital called us after he had a seven-hour surgery. He has been through six surgeries since Sunday,” says Alycia Willis.

She received another one of those phone calls during the interview with News Leader 9. The doctors told her that both of her brother’s arms will have to be amputated.

“It kind of scares me,” says neighbor Carson Layfield.

Neighbors say the dogs have been a common problem for close to a year now. Some of the kids in the neighborhood say they can’t even walk to their bus stop without fear.

“The dogs chased them up the street and they’re only 10 and 8 years old. They’re scared to death,” says area resident Josh Drysdale.

The family says animal control has taken the dogs and the owner has been arrested. Neighbors say there are other dogs belonging to that same owner that they say are just as dangerous.

“It’s been an ongoing situation. They chased my daughter. She is six years old. If that would have been her, if that would’ve been a child that’s going through what my brother is going through, they would not have survived,” says Alycia Willis.

The family of the victim says they will be taking legal action against the owner of the dogs. They say for now they’re just wishing their loved one a speedy recovery.

You attack us as “ignorant” and “haters” yet you refuse to acknowledge the facts of pit bull attacks, thoroughly documented in this and countless other threads about dreadful attacks on human and canine victims — being overwrought emotionally while refusing to acknowledge or engage the facts is another pathology of Leftists.

Maybe I’ll ping you every time another of these threads emerges, so you can attack the poster of factual accounts of pit bull attacks as an ‘ignorant hater’.

This is the kind of thing you should really get worked up about. You see it's effing people who are the problem; not the animals who were abused or trained to be aggressive. Yes, I will concur Pitties have more of an aggressive gene in them than most other breeds, but they are amazing dogs in the hands of those who treat them right. In the wrong hands that aggressive gene is nurtured. Pitties just want to please their human like any other dog except more so. They are also fearless for the most part. Some are timid but my experience with them is they have no fear when it comes to protecting themselves and others. I couldn't care less whether you agree with this or not because I know for a fact it is true. You anti-Pit people are exactly the same as the anti-gun people. You blame the instrument rather than the person behind it. We deserve a better caliber of Freeper here.

17 dogs rescued, 11 dog skulls found at Mulga fighting ring

As deputies headed into the woods, they were met by a juvenile carrying an injured dog. Once at location of the dog fight, Christian said, deputies found 17 pit bulls, four of which had injuries consistent with dog fighting. There was a ring with fresh blood inside, he said. Investigators also recovered 11 dog skulls so far. A 42-year-old was taken into custody, Christian said. He is being held in the county jail pending formal charges. His name will be released when warrants are obtained.

Negative. I am pro-gun, and pro-2nd amendment, an NRA member.

Guns don’t have free will! It’s if weapons had free will they’d be an existential threat, but they don’t. Guns are inanimate objects! This fact is fundamental to arguments for self-defense and gun ownership.

Stop with the pit bulls-as-victims crap, Countless mauling victims and families of deceased mauling victims are not impressed by stats that show pit bulls are used for fighting — of course they tend to show up in dogfighting rings because that’s what they were bred for, and the kind of people that own them know they are the most competitive, tenacious fighters, These low-life humans tend to take sadistic pleasure in animals suffering, and in watching their animals inflict suffering on other dogs, and far too often on people too.

You’re still the same thing as an anti-gunner from my perspective. Not one bit of difference.

You all love to vent but none of you actually offer a solution to the problem of aggressive dogs (Pits are just one of the breeds that is aggressive). When you start doing that and stop all the fear and hate; then and only then will you gain any respect.

Once again I have proven why these threads do nothing good for FR. They are extremely divisive with no redeeming factors. Just plain old whining.

The aggressive dogs you speak of are a target when they come after me and mine. On that we can agree. In truth; I would like to see the breed reduced in numbers and the strains of aggressive fighter type Pit Bulls weeded out. The question is how to do that nationwide. It disgusts me there are still people who secretly fight these dogs to the death. I would like to see them put to death on the spot. No trial; just one bullet through the brain and done. Burn them to ash and throw the remains in a landfill.

Because you fail to comprehend the distinction between an animal with free will and an inanimate object.

The aggressive dogs you speak of are a target when they come after me and mine.

How noble of you /s

An admission that, by your twisted logic other people’s children don’t deserve our protection.
