I like both of them.

"Precious Lord Take My Hand" - Aretha Franklin

"Trouble Of The World" - Mahalia Jackson

these kind of near death articles are not uncommon and often false.

Several years ago Bootsy Collins and others were quoted in an article about Little Richard. Since then Fats Domino and Chuck Berry have passed but not Richard...

That is sad to hear. I hope she pulls through.

Seems kind of crass to write an obituary about someone who has not yet passed.

It's disgusting. I hope she's not surfing the internet from her hospital bed.

“Love the scene in The Blues Brothers where she performs “Respect”.”

one of the all time great song and dance movie scenes ...

sorry to hear this about Aretha ...

For me, Aretha's best isn't "Respect", it's this little masterpiece from the early '70s, which never fails to return me to my childhood when I hear it. She's one of the great musical voices of the 20th century - hopefully she recovers to enjoy more golden years.

Motown definetly led the way and had a classically unique sound that found a wide audience. Aretha Franklins roots were in Memphis. Her first recordings though were with Atlantic in NYC. I don’t think she did anything with Berry Gordy until she was a well established star.

Sorry her first recordings were with Columbia, but her biggest hits were recorded at Atlantic.

I wish her well and pray that she doesn’t suffer as her health declines.

That stated, I’ve never been a fan of her style of singing. Just not my ‘thing’...
