Let me know when they come out with Potato Vodka-flavored ice cream.
Is ketchup ice cream next?
We had water buffalo milk (higher fat content) boiled and the cream forming on top was skimmed off and used to make Ice cream. Since there was no refrigeration and no ice cream to buy in shops, it was made at home in a hand operated machine using ice cubes and crystal salt. My favorite was when freshly squeezed mango pulp was added to the cream & milk base.
A very favorite Japanese flavor is Green Tea ice cream. I got it served at the Okura, world-class hotel in Tokyo, back in 1984.
It’s funny, Trader Joe’s only carries Dukes Mayonnaise. So I put in my basket last Saturday for the first time so I could try it.
But, as you may know, that’s the day I was held hostage at the store. Next time, when they re-open, I’ll try it.
Cute.
Here's a great Pina Colada Frozen Yogurt from a County Fair 4-H Ice Cream Social.
Wonderful scooped into sherbet glasses.....heavenly over angel food cake
ING 2-32 oz containers vanilla yogurt 2-15 oz cans crushed pineapple 15 oz can cream of coconut, cup sugar, cup h/cream.
Mix and freeze as per ice cream freezer. Makes 4 quarts.

FIRE AND ICE CREAM
1/2 cup milk
1 (2-inch) cinnamon stick
1 strip orange peel (from small orange)
4 whole cloves
2 teaspoons vanilla
14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 teaspoons Original TABASCO® brand Pepper Sauce
2 cups heavy cream, whipped
Cinnamon sticks and orange peel twists for garnish (optional)
PREPARATION
Combine milk, cinnamon stick, orange peel and cloves in a small saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer 5 minutes to blend flavors. Set aside to cool to room temperature; strain. Combine milk mixture, vanilla, condensed milk and TABASCO® Sauce in a large bowl and mix well; gently fold in whipped cream. Cover and freeze until firm, stirring once.
Lucky you. Sounds awful.
This sort of crap I'm sure is popular with the dopey new generations, "Hipsters" and millennials. Fools who have no idea what good food is, and think that eating is like one of those college games where you are dared into doing something weird or stupid. The more bizarre or disgusting the item, the better. I could just see the bearded schmucks hanging out eating this garbage inside some trendy new cafe in New York.
Dukes at TJ’s? Gosh, I’d better get there right away.
I’ve often walked to that TJs. But the parking is so poor that we usually go over to Glendale or Burbank.
So glad you pulled through.
That poor manager....
I went to Glendale yesterday but Silverlake is so much closer.
But Duke’s is at ALL Trader Joe’s stores not just Silverlake. It is the only mayo they carry. But my understanding was that Duke’s is pretty close to Hellman’s anyway no?
My wife thinks they’re the same product with different labeling. Though I was always a Dukes man as an adapted Son of The South.
‘Gotta get me some....
“Well, I love mayo ... AND Hellmans really is the best.”
Hellman’s truly is “the best”, i.e., on the other side of the country the same mayo’s label is the “Best” brand.
I despise mayo, so mayonnaise ice cream is not an option for me.
Hellman’s is sweeter. Hellman’s is the default pick in the Midwest.
I was wrong about Duke’s. I’d always dismissed Duke’s (without trying it) as a Southern thing - too much sugar, like most Southern things. But Duke’s actually has no sugar. Tangy is better than sweeter.
Salad cream is their real love.
Probably just couldn’t even taste it if added to ice cream.
Well let’s hope that’s that most disgusting thing I hear all day.
I understand. I despise ketchup.
I first moved out of my home in my late teens. That was the last time I bought a bottle. It remained unused. At times, Chinese recipes will call for a tablespoon or two so I keep a couple of “to-go” packets around just in case.
When Umani Burger opened in LA years ago, they had just one store on La Brea ... so I went for lunch. Besides the burger, which was good, I ordered a “pickle plate” since I love pickles. But they made a big deal about their ketchup which was presented in a Chinese soup spoon places carefully on the plate.
I did not touch it.
The waiter came by to chastise me because I had rejected their creative process. He contended that I could not appreciate the burger without the ketchup.
I forgave them and still go too their many stores, but still do not eat ketchup.
