I love Italy, but had very unpleasant experiences with pushy migrant street vendors in many of the tourist areas.
I would tell you countries vary by region as well... the Atlantic coast of france and much of the interior is very conservative, though less english is spoken.

But the country I have always found the MOST welcoming of Americans is Greece. Though they bore the brunt of the migrant crisis, migrants have no desire to stay there, and are waiting in transit centers or have already left.

Greece is also very affordable, particularly eating out.
I would tell you the place in Greece, Greeks themselves vacation is the Pelion region , you won’t find many foreign tourists which is quite wonderful for me.

I just came back from the uk last month. To my surprise no one approached me a dd also no one seemed to be discussing brexit (much less trump) in pubs. Also very little to no awareness of tommy robinson controversy at least with the under 40 folks.

In iteland a couple of years ago my host let me know he was very anti eu and also jealous of our 2a.

One thing we can do in our travels is to be ambassadors for the usa form of government and usa ideals which are the best things we can export. We can have a positive effect even in usa unfriendly countries imho.

I had to spend a lot of time working in Germany and Belgium where I was able to see many great things during the weekends. I set up a nice three-week trip to take my wife so she could see the great things I had already seen but the political climate, as well as the Muslim crime made me cancel our trip.

Took a day-trip to Morocco from Spain.
It was a bit awkward because it was during Ramadan, so none of the locals could eat, but we were treated to a real nice lunch at a restaurant there.

We took a Danube River cruise featuring stops in Austria, Slovak Republic, and Hungary on Uniworld in early April. The cruise began in Passau, Germany and ended in Budapest with stops in Salzburg, Melk, Vienna, and Bratislava. Fabulous experience.

Thanks All — great info. I appreciate it.

Just read that Croatia has been cracking down on mass migration for many years, so that makes me like that country even more!

As I was watching the World Cup today, I was in the computer, researching flights. It’s obvious that there are no direct flights from the US to Zagreb, Croatia, so I would have to fly into Vienna or Frankfurt first. I’ll try to make sure that it’s Vienna since I don’t even want to step foot in Merkel’s Germany and spend one single Euro on a piece of streussel dessert.

Best!

Vienna is an awesome city. Also you can make the day-trip to Bratislava.
