“Why is the left so concerned about straws?”
Simple answer: Because they suck.
(Is that word allowed on here?) lol
American streets are full of litter, including straws and straw wrappers, paper, plastic bottles, cig butts, etc.
Straws are like 1% of all plastic North American garbage. The entire Western countries contribute only about 1% of all plastic that ends up in the ocean.
They are making a big deal out of 1/10,000% of all the plastic that ends up in the ocean.
Maybe California can be the first government to outlaw the use of plastic within the borders of a state.
Why would they ban something that makes a favorite activity less convenient?
Camel nose in the tent. Next will be cups, especially styrofoam. Plastic lids of course that go on the cups, plastic bottle, then glass. That’s when the people start killing liberals in the street like a baby seal hunt, just to hear people joyfully thank them.
There is no profit in them. They are a commodity. Ban them and patent the integrated cap/sipper. Voila, a profit.
WHY????? Because the incessant heretical leftist
Scum known as Saul Alinsky/ now Valerie Jarrett SKUNK are still Alive, thats why.
“They essentially banned plastic bags.”
Yes the very thin, easier to decompose bags. Now we have to pay 10 cents for the new super thick never to decompose bags!

The 500 million straws figure has been repeatedly cited by Calderon, activists and even the National Park Service but, according to Reason, it has a less-than-scientific origin. The number originally came from Eco-Cycle, a recycling company, but it was allegedly provided to them by a nine-year-old boy. No, really. In 2011, a then-nine-year-old Milo Cress conducted phone surveys of straw manufacturers and, after hanging up his parents phone, he arrived at that figure, which has been roundly quoted ever since. (Cress, now 16, says the National Restaurant Association has since double-checked his estimates).
I live in Leftist Washington State, where the Leftist minions in the city of Seattle will be voting for a 14-cent a gallon tax on gasoline that would escalate over time. Because Seattle’s Left, due to the size of their voting power, can dictate the results of the ballot, they will vote this oppressive tax on the entire state. Because most of Washington’s power is generated by hydroelectric, it has the cleanest energy production in the United States. They say they will use the money for clean air and clean-energy. How much cleaner can they make it?
The same question for plastic straws. How many plastic straws are getting into the environment from U.S. sources? I bet the United States has the lowest contribution of plastic straws in the world. Seattle’s elimination of plastic straws will not make any difference. The other sources will continue: cruise ships dumping the daily passenger garbage over the side, transport ships dumping the crew’s garbage into the ocean, ships dumping plastic for recycling into the ocean, fishing ships throwing daily crew’s garbage over the side, and pleasure crafts dumping garbage over the side. The amount of plastic waste from ships accounts for almost all of the waste into the oceans. The few nitwits throwing their soda cup and straw out the car window will have a negligible effect because how many of those straws will make it into the Puget Sound? Besides, plastic straws can still be purchased at any Safeway grocery store. People will just keep them in the glove compartment.
Ah Yah, the good old days!!!
I think I remember them being banned because too many trees were killed to produce them (or some such leftist-at-the-time drivel). They never did say:
1) how many trees does it take to make one straw anyway and
2) why not just plant trees to replace the ones so used up??
Mom used to warn me that I could ‘put an eye out with one of those things’. (Well heck, Mom, it wasn’t MY eye unless one were to boomerang)
Dad just chuckled quietly.
