Eat a balanced diet, sufficient intake of fluids, dont overeat anything, get enough exercise or activity, avoid or eliminate unhealthy habits, get enough social interaction and rest.
Have faith in and enjoy praising God. Its not that complicated.
Get your cholesterol tested. If your numbers are good, you can show your wife and prove to her that your diet is not having an adverse effect on your health.
If your numbers are bad, listen to your wife. Or, you could do what I did - ignore the nagging.
I think there is something to this. I’ve been on a program for the past year that discourages breakfast. So, I eat lunch and dinner every day, anything I want but reasonable portions eaten very slowly so I’m satisfied with less. The long break between dinner and lunch the next day is basically ‘intermittent fasting’. Over the past year I’ve slowly but surely lost 45 lbs and am down to a weight I haven’t seen since high school.
It is definitely healthiest to avoid mentioning to the wife the restaurants that you go to with the girlfriend.
Basically, do the opposite of medical conventional wisdom. Keep carbs down. Eat animal fats (bacon, butter, clarified butter) and stay away as much as possible from poisonous vegetable oils like canola, corn, peanut, etc.
Don’t worry about eating cholesterol.
Get rid of processed crap and eat real food. Steaks, eggs, chicken, pork...and veggies! Fresh ones taste better.
Don’t worry about salt unless you have an existing heart problem. In fact, make sure you’re getting enough salt. Many people don’t (especially those who don’t consume a lot of processed food) and the government recommended amounts are not enough for most people.
Get your T levels checked and make sure it is optimal. If it isn’t, make it optimal.
Lift weights. Why? Because being strong feels awesome and you know what people with lots of muscle mass can do? EAT. A LOT! :-)
If you eat right, don’t drink or smoke, get plenty of rest and exercise, you’ll get eight more years in an old folks home.
Don’t eat too much. Go at least 16 hours each day without taking in any calories. Do a 24 hour fast every week or so. Limit carbs. Strength train at least once per week. Don’t sit around too much, go for a walk.
My sex life is like social security. I get a little every month just not enough to live on...
Lowish carbs, high quality fats, avoid processed foods, coffee okay, salt probably okay, low to moderate alcohol probably okay (but watch out for carbs).
We don’t follow food fads. Our diet is a mix of Italian and southern foods. Nothing low fat or weird.
Today he requested scrambled eggs with smoked ham and mozzarella and spaghetti bolognese.
A dietary improvement shouldn’t be difficult to arrange - most husbands spend vast amounts of time eating sh*t.
Now that’s a diet I could go for LOL.
Look on the bright side.
At least she doesn’t want you in poor health and hasn’t taken out a large life insurance policy on you.
Sounds like she loves you but what do I know, I’m a girl!! LOL!
Just use common sense and some good advice you have gotten here. (p.s. Hide the occasional junk food in the basement or in your car.)
So, you eat at the “Y”!

All I know is that if you are overweight and she smiles when handing you the plate, she is trying to kill you.
I stepped on the bathroom scales a couple of years ago and they cussed out loud and told me to get the hell off!! 350 pounds is not a good weight for a 6 foot 2, late 50 something.
So, I started the Atkins diet. 20 net carbs a day and after 6 months I was down to 290 and for the last year and a half, I have only added back 10 pounds.
My "diet" consists of 20 to 30 net carbs a day, Monday through Friday, and "anything goes" on the weekends.
On the plus side, no more daily heartburn, I eat all the beef, chicken, pork, seafood and eggs I want. All the scotch I want and my blood pressure is way down, the cholesterol is down and I have more energy then ever.
So, am I touting the Atkins diet? Hell no! I'm just saying that the Atkins diet worked for me.
The underlying theme of a favorite Damon Runyon Theater episode.
I cook with nothing but butter and olive oil, now.
As a Vegevegetarian, I only eat:

Things that eat vegetables
Things that eat things that eat vegetables
Any product derived from the above.
Note that chocolate and maple syrup count as vegetables.
