It is an insurance and liability issue. He violated the rules, and had to have some disciplinary actions. He was put on ‘double-secret probation ‘. Basically, just don’t do this again, but we totally understand why.

I agree.

Likely the track had to impose some sort of penalty to show good faith in following policies demanded by insurance and all.

I would expect the folks giving him his time-out did so with a wink and an apology.

In the end, he did what any father would have done. Your "baby" is always your "baby". Love knows no bounds.

Obviously, and it’s just as obvious that, having driven away a goodly percentage of their fans, the remaining France family wants to “take the money and run”.

The rules are in place for good reason - the Dad could have been severely burned or worse. He knows the rules and decided to act.

He did the right thing but should not get a pass.

The rule in this case MUST be cast aside as an example of an exception. In technical terms those seeking to enforce this rule to the letter are ass holes.

Yes this is probably what it is.

I won’t fault the father for rushing to his sons aid. However he broke rules that he agreed to. If NASCAR doesn’t enforce the rules this time then they can’t enforce them next time. He was put on probation for the rest of the season, so as long as he doesn’t do it again there’s no fine or other penalty. It sounds like they came up with the least “punishment” while still enforcing the rules.

What if Mom, Sister, Brother and a few cousins jumped out and ran across a live track?

Indeed. Unless we are ready to go all Shakespeare on the lawyers, this was an appropriate limited response. Dad should wear his probation as a badge of honor.

Did he get there before the “licensed professionals”? If so, maybe he ought to be hired to train the “LP’s”.

What? Stand around waiting until the safety committee figures out what is happening?

Someone should punch that dumb NASCAR official in the face.

Probation for the season.

This means they only gave him a talking to.

So if his son wrecks again this season and he runs out they may do more.

It seems like they weren’t really bothered by what he did but had to do something as a formality.

Kudos to the dad, I don’t think there is anything wrong with the tracks action, they had to do something about a clear violation of the rules(no matter how understandable). The tracks action is actually less than a slap on the wrist and doesn’t impact him negatively in any function at the track.

[[the Dad could have been severely burned or worse.]]

So couldn’t his own flesh and blood- that’s the whole point- it was the kid’s father for crying out loud

[[He did the right thing but should not get a pass.]]

I disagree- He should get a pass- The extenuating circumstances are that this was his son- not an employee-

I understand your point.

Most corporations have zero tolerance EHS&S (health, safety, yada, yada) policies, similar to this and probably for the same reasons. Reason #1 Liability - too many people out there looking to hit the "jury jackpot"...My opinion here of course, doesn't matter -I don't work for NASCAR
