How might baking soda boost cancer therapy?

A Ludwig Cancer Research study has uncovered an entirely novel mechanism by which cells enter a state of dormancy as tissues starved of oxygen become increasingly acidic. The study, led by Chi Van Dang, scientific director of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, has potentially significant implications for cancer therapy: Large swaths of solid tumors are often deprived of oxygen, and cells in such patches are thought to be a major source of drug resistance and disease relapses.

Baking soda had previously been reported to enhance cancer immunotherapy by one of the co-authors of the new study, though the mechanism underlying the effect was unclear.

Dang's team, including co-corresponding author Zandra Walton, an MD-PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, discovered that mechanism through an intricate series of experiments done at the University of Pennsylvania and Dang's Ludwig lab at the Wistar Institute. It centers on the behavior of lysosomes -- a sack-like cellular organelle that digests proteins and that mTOR moves to when it is ready for action.

"Cells don't want to make proteins or other biomolecules when they're under stress," says Dang. "They want to slow things down and only awaken when things return to normal."

The researchers show that baking soda can reverse this effect. When given to mice in their drinking water, it surprisingly sufficed to neutralize the acidity of hypoxic patches in tumors. This sent lysosomes zipping back to the nuclear periphery in cells -- where RHEB was waiting -- and restored the activity of mTOR.

All this is relevant to cancer because researchers have long known that quiescent cells cannot typically be killed by chemotherapy. Notably, Dang and his team also found that T cell activation, which is essential to most immunotherapies, is similarly compromised under acidic conditions.

Baking soda helps cancer therapy work better, seemingly through Ph changes to acidic blood. Blood is always to remain neutral, but eating protein makes it acidic and eating veggies makes it alkaline. We need it in the middle, and our kidneys and pancreas sometimes just can’t keep up.

Google the drug Rapamycin. It works the same way, on mTOR protein.

Another “miracle” drug like aspirin? It also seems to maybe treat rheumatoid arthritis. See linked article.

It’s been used long time to improve treatment of kidney disease.

Turned my Dad’s completely around and he was in kidney failure.

A 1930’s cure for cancer was to cook down natural maple syrup and baking soda down to a hard candy. Cancer is a sugar lover and ends up concentrating the baking soda in the tumor.
Cancer needs an acid environment to survive.

Do a bit of a sugar fast to set this up...

This is the craziest thing I’ve ever read posted here.

I don’t care who you are or what your experience is.

Taking baking soda is not just a nail in your coffin, it’s a dozen.

Science 101: Sodium bicarbonate neutralizes gastric acid.

Such a MORONIC thing to do...totally ignorant.

The so-called “alkaline diet” BS has no bearing here whatsoever. If you have cancer, the last thing you want to do is FURTHER compromise your endocrine system.

Insofar as cancer therapy, a prudent internet boolean search will reveal what others have done “naturally” and it doesn’t involve ingesting baking soda.

I’ve been saying this for ten years after I took some baking soda water and had so much energy I felt as though I w as s on speed. It does not just work on the hemoglobin’s ability to carry 02.

Most farmers will tell you the importance of ph on a plants ability to extract nutrients from the soil. The same is true with the digestive track.

I also observed when caring for patients with stomach cancer the impact of ph on a patients ability to produce intrinsic factor in the parietal cells in the fundus of the stomach and the resulting B-12 deficiency, thus causing depression.

Unlike calcium carbonate which is a large molecule and is limited to impacting the stomach, and is further restricted by the gastric cell response, sodium bicarbonate appears to more easily be absorbed by the body.

One of the greatest impacts of proper stomach ph is intestinal flora or bionics necessary for production of neurotransmitters such as serotonin in the gut.

Go yell at the study authors.

You are correct that it neutralizes acid, but baking soda appears to do more than that, once it leaves the stomach.

Proselytizing ignorance on health has consequences for all; I take this as seriously as the BS being promulgated by the left on Russian collusion and, of-late, on immigration.

Educate yourself and concede your errors. It was wrong to post this.

I’ve been combating ignorance ever since starting my books and this won’t be the last time I call it out.

For clarity, look up the definition of “ignorance”; it is far from an insult... except when the object of my challenge doubles down on it.

” Blood is always to remain neutral,”
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^6
Wrong-

An important property of blood is its degree of acidity or alkalinity. The acidity or alkalinity of any solution, including blood, is indicated on the pH scale. The pH scale, ranges from 0 (strongly acidic) to 14 (strongly basic or alkaline). A pH of 7.0, in the middle of this scale, is neutral. Blood is normally slightly basic, with a normal pH range of 7.35 to 7.45. Usually the body maintains the pH of blood close to 7.40.

My best friend’s mother did the same thing...although she also added a drop or two of apple cider vinegar to the baking soda/water mix.
She was near renal failure because of diabetes when she started taking the remedy at the advice of an elderly neighbor lady. About 6 weeks later...she was 100 percent better.
That was 8 years ago.
I take the same remedy for acid reflux...and its gone...along with the zantac.

There is absolutely nothing to admit to. These are studies in respectable, formal journals.

You are some guy on the Internet without a clue.

“Science 101: Sodium bicarbonate neutralizes gastric acid.”

It’s a bit more complicated than that, which is also one of the reasons that eating meat in large quantities effects normal gastric acid levels.

The G-cells in the stomach that respond to not only the acid level but also the stretching of the stomach release gastrin, not into the stomach but as a hormone into the bloodstream. This gastrin triggers the parietal cells to produce both intrinsic factor and acid. Without intrinsic factor which is an akaline moleculle that attaches to certain nutrients such as B-12 to protect them in the acid environment of the stomach, the nutrients are destroyed before they can get to the protection of the changes in ph below the pyloric arch where the akaline solutions from the liver and bile from the gall bladder enter.

Many patients are on B-12 shots as they get older for depression. It would be interesting to determine how many of these patients get GE or stomach cancer later as the B-12 deficiency was just a symptom of a greater undiagnosed problem. I studied much of this while caring for a family member in my home who was dying of stomach cancer and I needed to feed using a J-tube and pump. It gave me many hours on a puzzle much better than any crossword.

That is effectively a neutral Ph. It even rounds to it.

This is one of the reasons that proton pump inhibitors over long periods of time can cause damage.

I’ve found much garbage research published in respectable medical journals. Even bad statistics.

Dr’s are eternal optimists and want to help patients get well. So when a new treatment modality comes along it is a panacea until reality hits and a new panacea comes along.

The poster is not making this stuff up - he is posting it.

The article he posted describes experiments at the University of Pennsylvania’s Medical School, done in conjunction with members of multiple prestigious cancer institutes, which was published in the peer reviewed journal Cell.

I understand, but these are studies that have not been proven deficient.

It is valid news to provide.
