If someone is going to be a critic, I’m going to want to know how competent they are in the knowledge of film.
Sony was hiring their own critics to generate pull quotes for sh!t films.
Simply being able to gush about some contemporary crap isn’t enough to qualify as a “critic”.
There are people who’ve pushed The BATMAN: Dark Knight Returns to #4 on the top 50 best movies of all time on IMDB. Was it REALLY that good of a movie? Avengers Infinity War is #20 OF ALL TIME??? Django Unchained #61????

I normally don’t know the race of who’s reviewing a film or album. Unless they make a point to draw attention to their name or interject their own politics into something.
How many black critics are reviewing rock albums these days?
I’ve known some black writers who have covered rock music scenes very well but they are the exception to the rule, most shun it altogether.
Oh the horror.That said, these “white men” seem to spend most of their time promoting movies that would have them hanging from nooses. They’re trying to curry favor with a lobby more powerful than they.

Trailers From Hell has movie directors gush over the movie trailers for films (from past years and past decades) that they liked. Some of their commentary is trivial, some illuminating, and some batsh!t crazy political leftard rants.

A good critic should give you enough information to go on to decide if you want to engage a film. Longer critical pieces are written to explain why it was good or bad or in context with other works to discuss trends and ideas.
You’ll generally base your future selections on the track record of what you agreed or disagreed with them on... You may even reject out of hand what they recommended and see what they said avoid.
The only movie critics I ever respected where on “In Living Color”.
