I did the same as you today. I heard Shep’s first couple of lead sentences and immediately picked up his phony spinning of what had occurred at the summit. I switched to the Golf channel.
Cable TV news can be a self-contained bubble of people all sharing the same point of view.
If you've ever wished Chris Matthews or Rachel Maddow or Chris Cuomo had to deal with somebody who loved Trump on an everyday basis, that may give a clue as to why FNC keeps Shep around.

My question was WHY does FOX NEWS have him on....not on my ability to change channels.
I will not watch or listen to Shep Smith. His values and mire are very opposed. He does Fox News a true disservice each and every time he is on the air.
Fox News Channel is fair and balanced.

True, but they cover things ignored by so-called news programs. You won't see Shep and his kind at ABCNNBCBS reporting on the black out-of-wedlock birth rate, the falsehood of "hands up, don't shoot", the suicide rate among "transsexuals", the misbehavior of the federal bureaucracy or the failures of socialist societies.
As for why they keep him on, it beats me. I've jokingly thought he must have made a pact with the devil. He's a fool, he's overly dramatic, and he gets low ratings. I have some ideas about why Fox doesn't dump him, but I shall remain silent.
