At noon today I sent a message to the Congress about the situation in Korea. I want to talk to you tonight about that situation, and about what it means to the security of the United States and to our hopes for peace in the world.

Seems to me the Soviets wanted the Korean peninsula for the ports access to the Pacific Ocean. Why would they help?

At the same time Truman was having to deal with all of the Soviet spies that FDR had embedded in the State Department and throughout the rest of the Federal government.

Pretty much like “The Deep State” Trump is also having to deal with.

Except unlike with Trump, Truman didn’t care to get rid of the spies, even trying to throw Whittaker Chambers under the bus to save Alger Hiss.
