I looked at some before and after pictures of the Gaza Strip. Gaza was a beautiful tourist spot with nice beaches and it produced enough vegetables to export them. Not so much now and the green houses have been destroyed.

Alexandria Egypt had one of the best libraries in the known world. In 642 the library was destroyed by order of the caliph Umar because the “books were not in agreement with Islam and its ‘holy book.’”

I believe your post is correct. But the library at Alexandria was very large, and was destroyed many times. At least one of those times was by Christians.

Israel turned it over to the Gaza locals, probably on the theory that they would be less of a problem if they had to rule themselves. Don’t know that the locals have much say in what happens- Hamas is going to use it as a forward base for attacking Israel no matter what anything does.

I watched a documentary about that. Supposedly there were books/scrolls about civilizations that predated anything we know about. We will never know now.
