Its the kind of headline that can lead to more ugliness than understanding.
Womens Soccer Star Turns Down USWNT Invite Over Pride Month Jersey.
The decision by Jaelene Hinkle last year didnt come with an explanation at the time. The 25-year-old defender for the North Carolina Courage told Christian talk show The 700 Club this week that she turned down a 2017 call-up to the U.S. national team because of the jersey the team wore for two friendlies to honor the LGBTQ community. Hinkle said she felt so convicted in my spirit that it wasnt my job to wear this jersey.
News travels fast: She received some boos on Wednesday in Portland when her Courage beat the Thorns. Some in the crowd waved rainbow flags. One fan brought a banner saying Personal Reasons in rainbow colors, a clap back to the original given reason for Hinkles choice. Hinkle didnt do any interviews after the match.
Some will dismiss her as a homophobe or deride her as someone whose fundamentalist views equate to contempt for an entire group of people. But those who want context can listen to her story. And then listen to a thoughtful reply.
First of all, this shouldnt be cast as unpatriotic any more than Colin Kaepernicks decision to kneel during the national anthem should be cast as unpatriotic. Hinkle appreciates the honor of playing for the U.S. Im being invited to play the game I love for the country, she told CBN.com. Theres an emblem of the U.S. flag on my chest. Thats huge. She prayed on her decision for three days, and she knew she was giving up the one dream little girls dream about their entire life. She knew she may not get another chance, and she hasnt been called back up to the...

Full title: Hinkle’s refusal to play for USWNT over Pride Month jersey offers opportunity for different kinds of understanding
The comments and reactions at the original Yahoo story are very positive for this commendable young ladyl. Good to see!
She is biracial too. Faith in Christ transcends race and is the ultimate and truest basis of identity.
Ive been trolling progressives on The Hill and WaPos website today - its great fun, I highly recommend it - over this.
Of course, they would ALL support that asshat Kapernick and his Komaraden in kneeling during the national anthem as first amendment protected and legitimate protest and the actions of the NFL to squash it as totalitarian and fascist.
Progressives (you know, liberals, leftists, democrats, socialists, communists - the real fascists) are so irony-deficient it may explain their inability or weakness is putting up a rational argument.
God bless her. Millions agree with her, but not everyone has the boldness she does. If you look up Jaelene’a story, it is quite remarkable. Save for a miracle and answered prayers, she would have been unable to play soccer for life due to medical issues. (Blood clots in the knee or something.)
Well I think she should not be paid for that game for sure. I mean if teams are going to have rules then both sides need to recognize that sometimes working for a company comes with a price and if you don’t want to do that particular task, then you need consequences. Corey found that out and so will Hinkle. We CANNOT have it both ways. Sorry.
No tolerance for ‘breeders’ and ‘vanilla’ ‘normals’.
She's right. And it's not the USWNT's job to wear it either. What the hell do they have to do with endorsing LGBT? Of course the forces of perverts are going to fall on Hinkle like a ton of bricks.
Major league baseball teams are planning “pride” days with rainbow hats and other fabulous trinkets this season.
I think this too. But more to my liking would be for her to go and refuse to wear the Jersey. They had no business forcing that on their team members and should face some sort of sanctioning.
Instead this woman was denied her potential because some LBGT thugs somehow interjected themselves in a sporting event. Nobody would care if a LBG person attended as a player or spectator. Transgender has its own problem.
Would they ever have pro-life jerseys or pro 2nd amendment Jerseys?
Very courageous. She took a stand for God and against sin.
I’m sure that NBC would heartily support an LGBTQ player refused to wear gear with a cross on it.
We know the answer to that.
Will Portland people turn off MSNBC due to Joy Reids comments?
“Will Portland people turn off MSNBC due to Joy Reids comments?”
Of course not liberals get away with having it both ways.
“First of all, this shouldnt be cast as unpatriotic any more than Colin Kaepernicks decision to kneel during the national anthem should be cast as unpatriotic.”
Ridiculous to try to cast not worshipping the homo flag of intolerance as “unpatriotic” in the first place.
