"I can’t get hired because of my throat tattoo"
The New York Post ^ | Alex Green

Posted on 05/21/2018 1:25:08 PM PDT by Simon Green

A job hunter claims he has been unfairly discriminated against after he was rejected by dozens of employers over his enormous neck tattoo.

Joe Parsons, 21, got the $330 six-inch throbbing red heart with turquoise angel wings in memory of his late grandfather while he worked in a factory.

But he claims that, while he has no problem getting around 30 interviews, he has never managed to get a job thanks to his huge inking.

He has tried attending interviews wearing high-necked shirts but the tips of the wings still peek out above the collar line.

Parsons, from Manchester, England, insists he doesn’t regret getting the extreme body art but wishes potential bosses could see past it.

He said: “Before I got the tattoo people thought I was a happy, confident person. Now it feels like people think I’m full of my self and that I don’t give a damn.”

“That’s just not who I am. I’m just a normal person and all I want is a decent job.”

“There’s definitely a stigma attached which there shouldn’t be. I do think it’s a form of discrimination.”

“It’s not down to the skills I have and in every interview they haven’t given me a good reason. Now I feel like I’ve got ‘don’t hire me’ written all over my neck.”

Perhaps his chances of getting hired would improve if he wore a clean shirt....

“I’m just a normal person and all I want is a decent job”

No, Joe Parsons is a tattooed freakshow who does not have a right to force anyone to give him a job.

I will be personally pleased when this idiotic fad of tattooing disappears like it should.

the throat tattoo shows bad judgement... it isn’t even a good one. since it is self inflicted, i do not see him being eligible for disability.

turtlenecks or dickies might help too...

Well, son, that neck tattoo of yours is a visible example to potential employers of your decision-making skills.

The look at me I'm cool idiots. Maybe they should learn to "dress" for success and attention.

You are probably right. Take a number, and wait your turn. A lawyer will probably find the exact spot in the Constitution (either US or UK - there are hints in the article, but none definitive) where your right to a neck tat is written, and get you millions ($'s or €'s)

Similar to male job candidates of my generation with long shaggy hair. At least we could cut our hair before the interview.

A lot of progress has been made in tattoo removal. It isn’t perfect, but it’s 90%.

There’s a guy at the gym who is probably in his 40’s. One of his arms is pretty well sleeved. The other one has very faded ink, probably what’s left over from tat removal. That must have been the anti-social arm when he was younger. The only thing remarkable is that they were once there.

Maybe this guy should check it out.

BTW, it works by using lasers tuned to colors which are destructive to particular pigments, breaking them up. Then the body cleans up most of the resulting debris.

Don’t get downwind of that guy; he probably stinks. That t-shirt looks like it was used to wipe down a car after a car wash, or worse. No wonder no one would hire him.

I wouldn’t hire anyone tattooed who applied for a job with my nursery/garden ctr operation, since they represent me at customers’ homes while out on the job, or even work at the huge nursery operation.

Holy smokes...

I wouldn't hire him because he is obviously mentally stunted wondering why people won't hire him.

Maybe he needs to have that motivational poster on his wall as a service to other dummies who want to get facial tattoos and gear:

He couldn’t get an ugly tattoo “in memory of his late grandfather” in a place that wasn’t visible all the time? Stooooo-pid.
