Separating the paper towel at this stage breaks off thousands of the little cilia and retards their growth. But, thanks for the photo.
I have never had a problem in the 30 or 40 years I have been doing this???. What am I doing wrong...

The cucumbers will go into the garden as you see them by removing them with the soil after thinning down to 2 or 3 plants.The corn will be transplanted to the seedling trays today or tomorrow and left in the greenhouse for 3 or 4 weeks
Nice greenhouse! I’ve become a greenhouse owner this year too. They are a lot of fun. Being able to start seeds and get them in the ground earlier is a life saver where I live. Sometimes we get rain until June! so getting stuff going in April is wonderful! congrats.
Now start figuring out how to monitor and keep the greenhouse from getting too hot! We had a 60 degree day and the GH shot right up to 100 before I knew it! I flipped on the solor powered Geothermal fan and bam, it knocked it down to the high 70’s pretty fast.

I’m in Zone 4, and I also need a fan for the greenhouse even with two vents and the double doors open. Right now, a 60 degree day means a 90 degree greenhouse!
It’s really nice for thing starting in March, but after mid-May it’s useless - then again it’s useful in the fall and into the late fall for keeping potted tomatoes & peppers going, or to do salad greens late into the season.
At my old farm I had fresh tomatoes at Christmas one year. But just that once out of 25 years, LOL!
I’m reading books on year-round use. We’ll see what I can accomplish. ;)
Busy Spring day,
First things first: go to town, and pick up the package of bees.
Mixed a batch of sugar water to fill the feeders & a spray bottle. The sugar spray keeps them calm while handling.
I got them into the hive with only one glitch: The queen cage came loose from its hanger, and fell into the package. Not wanting to hurt any of the bees, I let it fall into the hive when I dumped the bees into the hive. At that point, I could use the hive tool to reach in & fish the cage out. I cut a length of thin wire, and fashioned a new hanger for it.
Also got my 50 Yukon Gold potato sets planted; and tilled in the weeds between the asparagus rows.
Final chore, replugging a skunk hole into the hen house, and setting the live trap.
I trapped a skunk last week. I covered the trap and packed him down in the woods where he died of lead poisoning. I don’t have my potatoes planted yet but they are cut and ready to go in...
Sounds like a productive day to me.
LOL. Even smaller than mine. Had an old window, but never got around to using it. Not sure what happened to it.
The crazy weather continues here in Central Missouri. Hot, then cold, then more hot and more cold. Wind won’t quit, and it’s dry as a bone.
I hit the local garden center over the weekend and bought tomato plants, russian kale, and green cabbages. Got the kale and cabbages planted in the kitchen garden, and potted the tomato plants.
I think I’ll plant pole beans and cucumbers this weekend. Might be a little early for the cukes but I’m going to do it anyway and see what happens.
The green salad I planted last week is coming up. Still haven’t seen the snap peas but they should be up in the next day or three.
Nanner is still sitting in my shop. I cut the gasket on one of the filter canisters when I reinstalled it, so I had to order a new one. That should show up in the next day or two. Hopefully that will be the last thing I need to be back up and running.
Crazy here too, but we at least have had quite a bit of rain.
Sounds like a death from natural causes: it’s just natural to die with that much lead in him!
Your garlic is always so HUGE! I plant hard-neck varieties for the scapes, too. The finished garlic bulbs are average size, but mine never get as tall as yours do. :)
Living here in paradise has it’s rewards. On a down note my heating pads kicked off a circuit beaker for my corn seed and Lady Bender’s seedlings last night and I must trouble shoot that setback...
