Vanity: Who do you trust? Who can we trust?

Who do you trust? Who can we trust?

This is an open question, for which I personally don’t have many answers. I ask this at a personal level, societal level, and global level. I’m not a cynical person, but like many I am currently disillusioned and disappointed by what I see as a world in which deceit is acceptable - if it is an ends to a personal means and advances one’s self interest, and a world in which ‘honor’ doesn’t seem to be as valued a concept as I perceive it once was – at least in the abstract.

Personally, who do you trust in your life? Family? Friends? All family, or just some? Many friends, or just a close few?

In society who do you trust? Clergy? Church groups? Teachers? Neighbors? Politicians? Media? Physicians? Attorneys? Your plumber or contractor? Who? What do you tell your children about trust?

In the world who do you trust? Anyone? Do we have any trustworthy friends in the world? Israel? Europe? Canada? Who?

Although united by some basic beliefs and principles, FR is a diverse group, and I think it would be enlightening to see what others think about trust. I personally think that the only people you can truly trust are those who would sacrifice in some way for others, and who will act out of principle and spirituality rather than self-interest. That, however, is a very broad statement, and I have few finite answers.

Trust yourself alone and that only on a “good” day.

Right now Mr. Comey is lying his ass of for Hillary and 0bama. By your definition that is a “good thing”. You may want to reconsider...

What level of trust are you talking about? For complete trust, I would say that an individual should trust a very small group of family, only the closest of friends, and never trust an organization.

In the “trust but verify” category, you can expand the circle.

Trust is not the issue. Good vs. evil is the issue. “The Law is written on your heart.” They really are absolutes and not “shades of gray”. The “Moral Relativist” will spontaneously recreate every one of the Ten Commandments when it is his bull getting gored.

I’m going to bookmark this beauty. I have a feeling by the 10th post the responses won’t resemble anything to do with the original question.

I wasn't really thinking of that kind of behavior as 'self sacrifice', although I see your point. There have been plenty of leftist ideologues who have been willing to 'take one for the team' in order to push their agenda and world view. Obviously, you can't trust them..

This is the wisdom that stands the test of time. You would do well to listen to this man.

Deputy Mason-Dixon of the Grammar Police.... reporting for duty. Mr. neverevergiveup, I need you to turn over your Funk and Wagner. I will have to cite you for serial violation of the Whom/Who rule. You must go to a remedial class on the use of pronouns as subjects and objects in a sentence.

Try to be in a position of having to trust/rely on as few people as possible. Remember that coworkers and casual aquaintances — “hang out” together, have some drinks, talk politics or whatever, but when you need people to back you up it’s remarkable how few people will extend themselves an inch, even to so much as say a word on your behalf, even if you’ve backed them up in the past. Apathy is the watchword of modern society.

We are experiencing a total breakdown on this subject in this area. Literally. And, it is obvious this nation is about to explode and sink.

How can you trust a person who mocks a post about the concept of trust? We are right on subject.

I remember talking with a guy who had been a plant manager in East Germany before the Wall fell. Afterwards, the new German government allowed anyone who had a Stasi file on them (most of the population) to view their files. He said he made a big mistake in doing so - most of the info. in his file was inconsequential but he was more bothered by the informants. These included: his mother (he didn’t blame her, she was old and kind of out of it); his ex-wife (to be expected); his brother, who had always been extremely jealous. But the one that really hurt was his own daughter, whom he trusted implicitly. I also remember taking a relative to work daily at a local restaurant that was open 24 hours; the owner was extremely hard working and successful Greek guy who came to the US as a dishwasher and ended up being on Bank boards. I asked him why I always saw either him or his wife at the cash register - he replied that in “this business, you trust only your immediate family around cash”. I guess it comes down to the phrase I see occasionally in corner stores: “In God We Trust, all others pay cash”.

I trust God. Just like I’ve told my kids many times - I love them, and I’ll do anything for them. But I’ll screw up. And I won’t always be there for them - so don’t put me or mom at the top of your list. Put God there.

Part of trust is having the other person having similar points of view. If the SHTF, my son and one daughter have similar views. My wife and other daughter would have differing views.

Funny though - say if the SHTF - I can “trust” my wife and the one daughter to open our house up to all of the neighbors not so well prepared.

Regarding the choices in the vanity, I’ve eliminated the “media” and my “plumber” and/or “contractor.”
