I worked at a country club for 10 years and helped plan hundreds of huge weddings. Then I had my own event planning on the side. Would take care of everything. I fricken hate weddings and it doesn’t bother me at all to just say no.
And yeah, while I was at the country club I saw a few double weddings. First one was huge and lavish, 2nd one was subway sandwiches. lol
I have also given power tools. This it is her day is bull.

For a shower gift, a medium LL Bean bag filled with handtools such as hammer screwdriver, tape, picture hangers measuring tape, etc
For the wedding, a double rope hammock, no one else will get them one.
I have also given the wedding invitation framed to people I don’t like so much.

One of the bonuses of being in the military for 24 years. Easy excuse to get out of going to weddings. No one bats an eye when you say you have military obligations.

I’ve noticed in the UK that “hen do” or “hen party” is used. I know this from spending too much time reading DailyMail. I make no apologies. They cover a lot of US events better than many of our media outlets.
