Enter The Simpsons, riffing on that reality, which introduced the character of Kwik-E-Mart proprietor Apu Nahassapeemapetilon three years before the New York Times observed that reality more formally in 1992.

America's longest running television show came under fire last year when Hari Kondabolu, "a comedian of South Asian descent," made a documentary titled The Problem with Apu.  The documentary asserts that Apu perpetuates a negative and racist stereotype, and as such, his portrayal in the show is offensive and should be addressed.

The show addressed Kondabolu's criticism last week by dismissing it.  Lisa, the progressive voice of the show, sitting in bed with her mother, Marge, discusses how to make a book inoffensive for 2018, quipping, "Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect[.] ... What can you do?"

20 years ago this week—WAAF Worcester/Boston hosts Opie and Anthony, who later went national, fired for hoax saying mayor of Boston killed in car crash

This week—a couple weeks after a would-be talk host on a San Diego station posted a tweet saying “Jump...to a new morning show” with a pic of a bridge that has had many suicides, the station winds up dismissing him even before his first show, and changing format...station is flagship of S.D. Padres

I recall an article in National Lampoon, something like “Prof Kenilworth Dissects The Joke” which IIRC it wondered if it was wrong to do tasteless jokes.Included were some abour the Challenger explosion (what did Christa McAullife tell her husband before the flight? ‘You feed the dogs and I’ll feed the fish’ etc?

Blazing Saddles is legendary for so many reasons. It has become the Wyatt’s Torch of comedy. A big beautiful blaze burning high and bright in the encroaching darkness.

IIRC, Richard Pryor wrote most of the Mungo material. Including when Mungo punches the horse.

In a world of Pocahantas Liz Warrens, the song “I’m An Indian Too” from Annie Get Your Gun is not included in many recent presentations of the musical. Not PC.

The song actually pokes fun at American Indian stereotypes.

“I was so careful,” he laments. “I picked the wrong play, the wrong director, the wrong cast... where did I go right?”

Yep among other things, hard to keep up with political correctness and language. We aren’t supposed to talk of Indians any longer, but are supposed to say native American, or refer to the specific tribe such as Navajo. I understand Canada has similar issues with how to refer to their aboriginal people. And that the word “Eskimo” is politically incorrect now.

I recall the Edmonton Eskimos in the Canadian football league. I wonder if they have been pressured to change their name, similar to how the Washington Redskins have been so pressured.

Have said this many times but I still get a kick out of how people say American Indians are “Native Americans”. When one thinks about it, a Native American is anyone born in the USA (or perhaps born in North, South or Central America but I’m being specific). I am a Native American—born in Lynn MA, a part of the USA. I am also a person of color—white. White is a color.

I think Canadians refer to their “Indians” as “First Nations” or something.
Somebody born in Toronto is a Native Canadian.
Somebody born in the United State of America is a Native
American.

I went back a listened to the old Richard Pryor albums from the 70s. He couldn’t do half that material today. He’d almost be considered an “Uncle Tom” by the BLM crowd.

When a feminist gets in my face and I say, “Feminists are so cute when you’re mad.”, yes, I think comedy can still exist. :)

I actually have that soundtrack on vinyl. Pristine copy. It’s actually pretty darned good.

They recorded the orchestra in New York, sent the tapes to California, where they laid down Doris Day’s vocals.

I may have the locations reversed. Day was working on another project at the time.

What you'd be left with is a generally unfunny piece of propaganda defending the ideas of the status quo, hardly "the little elves whispering in the king's ear, always telling the truth about human behavior."

Neatly describes the comedy styling of Mahr, Colbert & Kimmel.

Super Bowl XX: Chicago Bears 46, New England Patriots 10
It took place 2 days before Challenger disaster

What did the Challenger launch have in common with the Super Bowl? They were both good for about 73 seconds.
