Every post office in France paralyzed by computer bug

Every post office in France has been hit by a computer bug that has shut down most of their services, preventing customers from receiving or posting mail and depositing or withdrawing money at counters.

The bug hit the country’s 8,500 post offices on Monday morning, and by mid-afternoon was still not fixed.

The firm’s tech teams were working to repair the fault, which La Poste says appears to be a technical failure and not the result of hacking. […]

This was the first time that the entire network has ground to a halt, according to LCI news channel. […]

Some customers took to Twitter to lament that La Poste had no fallback plan and its workers were unable to handle things like registered mail manually. …

Ours is virtually paralyzed without any known bug. It takes a good six weeks to deliver a basic certified letter now.

The moral of the story is that you always double check your work. You must test your software under the most heavy load possible before using it in the real world. But Government always gets burnt on these projects because they always hire the cheapest company bid and not go with a known winner..

Bull. Only question is, if there's a ransom involved, how soon til the French pay it..?

If you walk into the USPS office near me, the lack of service would make you think it was part of the French Postal System.
