WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A white North Carolina police officer shot and killed a black passenger who displayed a gun after a late-night traffic stop led to a physical struggle, authorities said Saturday.
The shooting happened after Officer D.E. McGuire stopped a car containing two men and a woman about 10:30 p.m. Friday during a routine patrol northeast of downtown, according to a Winston-Salem Police Department news release.
Edward Van McCrae, 60, was in the rear seat and began making suspicious movements, police say. McGuire told McCrae to stop reaching for concealed areas of the vehicle, but McCrae continued, according to the news release.

Yes, it has been posted previously. I just don’t understand why someone 60 years-old, he’s made it that far in life, would try to pull a gun on a police officer during a routine traffic stop. Why?
I’ve met some angry old people in my time. If they are on drugs or alcohol they can get really mean.
Because:
1) He has been very lucky to have made it to 60 years old but
2) You simply can't fix stupid.
I wonder how many of these guys resist and pull guns because they got it in their mind from the left that cops are the enemy. When I grew up in New York city I use to get pulled over all the time, all all all the time, and even if I was driving like a maniac and I could usually get out of it by showing the cop respect, calling him sir, yes sir, no sir, and doing what he says. Now it’s “Oh let’s immediately resist, do not show your hands when he asks you, tell him to F off, pull a gun” oh yes that certainly will help your situation. A friend of mine back in the 1980s was shot in the arm by a cop because the cop told him to stay in his car and like and idiot he got out. The city ended up paying him $100K even though it was his fault. If that happened today to a black guy he’d probably get a million and they would flame it as a racial issue.
Who knows? Maybe the dude was a racist, and hates white people, so he didn’t want to follow the instructions of a white cop.
Everything went fine.The State Trooper,who was black,was polite and professional...my sister was polite and reasonable.Ten minutes later we drove off with my sister about $150 poorer.
And for the record I had advised her to slow down a bit not long before the stop...but I didn't rub it in.
Because Reverend Al & Friends have all but advised brothas and sistahs that that's the only way to deal with cracker cop.
I always reach for my gun during a traffic stop. Doesn’t everyone? This sounds like a clear cut case of racism.
This just feeds the BLM racist cop white privilege mantra and every time this makes headlines, blacks think this is even more proof. Folks have to realize it’s a scary world out there for police and the best thing to do is *anything* that will keep their pistol in the holster.
The last time I was pulled over, I kept my hands in front of the steering wheel but I get the shakes sometimes and this made him nervous. He kept asking if I had a weapon and I kept repeating “No Sir!” Finally, he ran my license and plates and decided I was harmless. Wrote me a warning.
Follow requests and instructions......be smart....swallow your ego.....it is not that hard. Easier than getting shot.
I have had two black state troopers let me go because of speeding. One in North Carolina and one in Alabama. The Alabama one, like me, was a former jarhead. We talked about the Marine Corps on the side of the interstate. I treated both officers with the utmost respect. I will admit, my daughter, son, and myself have had a much better experience dealing with black cops as opposed to white cops. We are Caucasian. We are very respectful but I don’t know if thats the reason.
Exactly! Follow instructions as you followed the Drill Sergeant's orders at Fort Benning when you were 19.Then hire a lawyer to see if you have grounds for a civil suit.If no lawyer will take the case on a contingency fee basis you can be pretty sure that you have no case.
