The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds.

From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.

This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.

It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table(recipes)preserving, good living - there is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Greetings from Missouri. Rain all Week. No sun except today. Too wet to do anything. New raised beds are made. Gonna plant taters on 4/1 come rain or high water.

I rotate my garden plot based on this: LEGUMES, LEAVES, FRUITS, ROOTS, FALLOW/COMPOST. Leaves are like lettuce stuff, fruits are produce other than beans etc., roots, are garlic, carrots, beets, etc.

Now I had been planting a cover crop and letting one bed rest for a season. So when the new beds were built the composter had to be moved. So I had gallons of unfinished compost. So we put some concreate blocks around the fallow bed, and turned it into a compost heap.

We have buds that are beginning to bloom just in time for a spring frost that is predicted. UGH.

Well hope you are all doing well, and have a great weekend. Prayers up for all. God Bless.

Got about 12 inches of snow last week. But, I need to start indoors soon to beat the short growing season. I cannot plant tomatoes outdoors and get a tomato before it freezes. I think the time between freezing temps here is less than 80 days.

We are trying Rebekah Allen this year from Baker’s Creek. 70 DTM. I have had good luck also, at the end of the season, cutting off the branches that still have flowers, pulling off the bottom leaves, and sticking them into a pot of dirt.

I bring that indoors, and most go ahead and form fruit. I also get additional blooms/fruit through out the winter - just in front of the patio door.

You sure have a short growing period. We are more fortunate, but want to get as much harvested before the drought months.

Our nights are cold so time to maturity is longer up here at 8,500 ft elevation in the Colorado Rockies.

We’ve got watermelons. 12 to 15 of them.
The mango tree is baring heavily
The papayas are always baring.
Dragon Fruit (A cactus looking thing) is growing well but no fruit
Pumpkins are up.

“Watermelons! Papayas? Where are you?”

We live on Guam. Near the equator.

Keep those watermelons balanced. You wouldn't want your island to capsize.

I have this year been having trouble finding bulk seed taters.
Well, except for one place that has them - some purples, some russians, your usual reds.
But most places only have like ten (or even fewer) potatoes in these skimpy plastic bag thingies...
I wish I could get my hands on 15-20 lbs of the Russian white fingerlings I got a few years back! They were, by far, the best tater I ever ate. And all my neighbors and friends agreed.

I saw the first leaves poking out of the raspberry canes I kept on my smaller plants to give them another year of growing, but nothing on the big bushes I cut to the ground yet. I'm itching to plant my 300 feet of fences with sunflower seeds but it still freezes at night and I picked up some jiffy pots to start some black eyed susans in because most of mine have gotten a little old and need to be replaced.

But right now the only things my yard is suitable for is ducks and cattails. Rain has left everything swampy and even puddled in the low section.

We have lots of seed potatoes this year from our own stock. We had planted a lot, and then I got put on low carb diet by Dr. So we had a lot left over.
