A link between dementia onset and cardiovascular fitness was found in a study that followed 191 women for 44 years, said a study published Wednesday in the medical journal Neurology.
Researchers found that middle-aged women with a high-degree of cardiovascular fitness were 90 percent less likely to develop dementia later in life than those with moderate levels.
The study looked at a sub-sample of Swedish women aged 38 to 60 who were first examined and tested back in 1968, the website Live Science reported and the findings suggest that physical fitness in midlife benefitted the brain along with the heart.
The study found the fittest women who tended to develop trouble with memory and thinking did so an average of 11 years later than participants rated as moderately fit.
The 191 women in the study completed ergometer cycling tests in 1968 to evaluate their cardiovascular fitness, CNN reported. They were judged on their workload, measured by how much weight or resistance could be added to the bicycle before they became fatigued.

We should all work on farms and eat lard. Seriously.
What should a person think of Hillary and Pelosi?
And Mad Maxine of low IQ fame.
Terrible article title. Shouldn’t it be “Fitness-Lack of Dementia Link...”, or something to that effect?
It was indeed a terrible title, which is why I added that little parenthetical comment.
Maxine looks fit, for her though, it appears the dumb was genetic. It happened in the womb. It could be difficult to tell if she started getting dementia.
Pelosi has always appeared fit but she definitely seems to have signs of dementia. She was always crazy, but she wasn’t really stupid, she was a snake.
Hillary, she is a physically unfit disaster, but the cunning evil in her is not dementia.
I fought sarcoidosis for 25 years, couldn't get fit until I got well. It's easy for healthy folks to get and stay fit.
If you are ill, doing a lot of exercise overloads the immune system and not much good results.
Hillarys actions are a “Cunning Stunt” by a..............(fill in the blanks)
ouch!
>> They need to figure out which way the causation goes for this correlation <<
Absolutely.
It could be that people who are more intelligent will — on the average — have better habits of excercise.
Or perhaps some third factor — like diet, inflammation or genetics — is a significant causative agent that heavily influences both excercise habits and cognitive skills.
Agreed, this probably has to do with overall lifestyle.
The only thing stunning about Hillary is her popularity.
It’s called Grant Money.
Because Swedish woman also drink a lot of orange juice... Maybe that's why they don't get dementia.
