Ava DuVernay, a black activist who directed a whole movie arguing that mass incarceration (a multi-racial problem) is a continuation of race-based slavery, suggested that racism explains why her latest movie, "A Wrinkle in Time," got bad reviews.
DuVernay gave a back-handed compliment to Vulture's Kyle Buchanan, who wrote about the "subtle, resonant" theme of the black main character's insecurity about her hair. "You were the only Caucasian journalist of any gender to see it, understand it and seriously ask me about it. Appreciate the chat, the sensitivity and the writing," the director tweeted.

Wow, the Race Card is a great cover for poor talent isn’t it?
Whiners gonna whine
... theme of the black main character’s insecurity about her hair. “
So, is it about race or hair. Do non blacks all have perfect hair? Im sick to death of hearing about race and gender.
I indulged my kid, and went and watched this. The dialog was insipid, the plot was incoherent, the acting was wooden, the humor was unfunny, and the special effects were uninspired. Maybe that’s why the reviews are bad.
Maybe if they left God in the story like the author wanted it may have been worth watching? Bet it is full of secular atheistic preaching.
Im reading that the writer absolutely took out ALL Christian references.....and I understand ( not having read the book)...it is written as a Christian allegory ....ie CS Lewis
The writer wanted new age appeal.....
Bad decision
Yes, it must be racism as these same reviewers probably gave a glowing review to the almost all black cast of Black Panther....
This was on reading list back when we were home schooling. It was then rejected for being an anti Christian/anti catholic story
As far as I can tell all stories that are not compatible with Catholicism are simply bad stories. They are illogical or they run opposed to natural law
I predicted this film would flop for being a bad story
PS
Im planning on seeing....I Could Only Imagine.....tomorrow and really looking forward to it
I am racist so wouldn’t, or couldn’t, understand anyhow...
BTW..is the hair issue(?) about texture?
Again, I am racist so I almost do not even care?
The movie, gutted of its Christian referential influences, is presented a soulless and empty tale for the undiscriminating viewers pleasure.
Sorry, when I searched the FR, this article didn’t appear.
Standard proud righteous angst. Dejango
If you need to take the kids to see a movie for Spring Break:
“I can only imagine”
“Connect”
and a non-Christian movie for the list, “The Greatest Showman”
Yet Black Panther received raves and is one of the highest grossing movies of all time.
A group of us (about 15) are going to see I Can Only Imagine on Saturday night. Can’t wait.
