I’ve had several - maybe five or so - within the last 20 years. I just lay there and imagine myself wherever. I do deep breathing exercises until they tell me I’m moving too much, but other than that, no problem.
He did have life-long sinus problems, still has a deviated septum etc.
First help in his life came from the Neil Med saline wash kit from Walgreens or Walmart. He likes the squeeze bottle--hates the netti pot.
Then he started using colloidal silver (all are NOT created equal by a long shot) from
instead of the saline wash.
The saline wash would have to be done--usually a whole bottle--at any hint of a symptom in the nose or sinuses--treating sometimes for 3-4 days. But it worked. First thing to ever work. But not that comfortable etc.
Then he tried the colloidal silver in the squeeze bottle. Instead of a whole bottle, only 1-3 or 4 squirts were needed. Treatment usually only necessary 1-2 or 3 days. And, the treatment with the silver would usually last 8-12 hours instead of 3-4 hours between symptoms.
Initially, there were about 10 seconds of a kind of ice cream headache feeling but that quickly went away. One friend said it is because of the ph differences.
I had two in the last two years. The first one I nearly went to sleep. The second one I got an itch on my forehead just as he put me in, I nearly went crazy. I’ve heard stories. It makes me wonder if the iron in your blood isn’t permanently plastered to your artery walls after that.
I had one and I don’t remember any anxiety at all. It’s not like you have to do anything, you’re just lying there.
actually helped make them and have done engineering scans as a guinea pig for new designs: all levels of magnet strength from .5-3 Tesla.
Ask for an open MRI - likely what the doc is thinking of. They are like two pancakes with side structures instead of the cylinder.
Due to the way the magnetic field is impacted the strength is lower so the images aren’t as ‘precise’...no wrong word... refined maybe.. well they have lower resolution.
Did they at least give you a choice of music to listen to? If you pick something that relaxes you I’ve heard it helps. I tend to fall asleep in them unless they are asking me to perform certain tasks.
The one I was I had a mirror to see out. I could watch the techs though the one way glass. It wasn’t bad.
Close your eyes and go to sleep. I’ve had a couple of MRIs, it’s the best way to deal with the claustrophobic conditions.
I’m having trouble breathing reading this. Claustrphobic. I had an MRI done several years ago, they had TV and earphones, that was not bad. Next time it will be open MRI.
If you get panic attacks or claustrophobia youd best ask for sedation and sleep through it. It will be easy.
Ive had two brain surgeries so I have had a million brain MRIs. They lecture me to be super still in there and the first one I had, I tried to pretend I was playing a corpse on CSI. I thought I was PERFECT. But they still said I moved.
I close my eyes before they send me in so that I dont ever see how close that ceiling is to my face (I know how close it is, I just dont want to see it). I go to a happy place. I have a good imagination and I just make up some daydream and go there. If you think you can do that, do it. If you are afraid of another panic attack, just get sedation. No big deal. Good luck.
The open MRI is less confining. The sedative will damp down your anxiety.
I just took a nap
The doc that did my vasectomy was also pretty amazed at how calm I was.
“I said, Well - I'm guessing you've done this before?”
“More times than I can count - but just most guys have an issue with this. It's a huge step - and permanent without more extensive surgery.”
“Hey - after having twins - it better be permanent!"
If an open MRI and an eye mask do not work to calm your anxiety, they may give you a sedative. If so, you will need a ride home and a day or so to fully recover. In rare cases, the sedative itself causes distress though an adverse reaction.
Drugs! If you are claustrophobic, and if you never thought you were an MRI will teach you, ask for an open or at least the largest they have and ask for medication to ease the stress.
Being in tight confining spaces and being nervous about it isnt necessarily irrational. there are plenty of valid reasons it makes people uncomfortable.
And given that devices like ct scanners which can also be claustrophobic, can go out of calibration when not maintained properly, people have been hurt by xray burns from them. Compound that concern with the tight space.
I had an open one with contrast......so scared
So I decided to sing hymns....so comforting
It got me through just fine
Check with dentist. Bad tooth can cause sinus pain.
Yes, I did 45 minutes in one, at a California Air Force Base. It was anything but comfortable, but I survived.
Even the open MRI machine was too much for me with the business end of it so close above me. I finally got through it by keeping my eyes firmly shut and imagining myself just lying in my bed at home.
Its all in yer head !!!
Whats the thing gong to do eat you ??
