A 14-year-old New Orleans student on Saturday (March 10) became one of the latest to face charges after police say the student posted several threats against ReNEW Dolores T. Aaron Academy on Curran Boulevard.

The school shooting threat, discovered Friday, forms one of more than 106 such threats made toward Louisiana schools since the Feb. 14 shooting that killed 17 students and teachers at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., according to the FBI's New Orleans Field Office and the Louisiana State Police.

New Orleans area schools have been the targets of a number of threats in the wake of the Florida mass shooting, forcing school closures and resulting in arrests.

On Monday, classes at the University of New Orleans were canceled until 5 p.m. and staff were urged to avoid campus in response to threats made Sunday night. UNO student Nicholas Heard was arrested Monday morning on a terrorizing charge after NOPD said he threatened to "shoot several people on campus," police said.

The local increase is part of a national trend that has seen "an overwhelming increase in threats to schools across the country" during the past month, the FBI and state police said in a Monday news release.

"In every case, first-responders addressed all reports with the utmost sense of urgency," the news release states.

More than 60 people in Louisiana -- ranging in age from 11 to 28, but mostly juveniles -- have been arrested in connection with the 100-plus calls threatening school violence, according to authorities.

Most have been charged with terrorizing, which carries penalties of up to 15 years in prison, a $15,000 fine or both.

I don't know how it is anywhere else but we have had 10 or 12 in my area alone. This is getting out of hand and I'm not sure if there are more threats or if it is being reported more and taken more seriously.

In the old days, we just pulled fire alarms or forged parents signatures faking an illness to skip school. I was more brazen. I just skipped when I wanted, to but always told my parents where’d I be....

I think it’s a case of both....but with more being taken seriously.

Bingo. The sensitivity level is being set on hair-trigger.

If someone chews a Pop-Tart® into the vague shape of a gun, shut-down occurs.

Of course, they’ll worry about the nonsensical, but they’ll miss the big huge glaring obvious stuff...just like you’d expect.

The one that isn’t getting any national attention is that some kid raised an ISIS flag and spray painted ISIS graffiti all over a school in southern Utah. Police labeled it a prank. About two weeks later, he tried to set off a backpack bomb in another school. Fortunately, his bomb-making skills were not successful, and another kid reported seeing the backpack sitting in the hall, smoking, and they evacuated. Cops say if it had gone off, it would have done a lot of damage. Media is refusing to ID the kid.

It's time to decentralize these massive power centers that steal the children from their parents and intimidate the parents when they object. The many errors that have worked their way deeply into the philosophy of education can be exposed and eliminated by making the schooling apparatus, like the ideal general government, much smaller; and the process of learning much more personal and exciting.

Of course, when well-done, this is the direct benefit of home-schooling, but that made is not open to everyone.

These are the results deep state and their lackys, the fbi, hoped for. By not doing anything to stop Cruz, and Cruz goes off, the behavior snowballs where had they acted ‘back then’ the snow for snowballing would not be here.

This is obviously a problem that goes way beyond guns. What is making people issue all these threats?

How many of these copycat plotters are known wolves with prior police involvement and psychotic counseling?

There were bomb incidents 35 years ago when I was in school. The students would be sent home. Parents may have been notified. None of it made the local newspaper or radio (there was no local tv station in our city).

Often the threats were called in (and hoaxes) say during midterms to void the testing.

But there were several incidents with small bombs being discovered or going off.

The media coverage these creeps get brings on more such activities.

35-40 years ago there were tylenol tamperings/poisonings and people holding McDonald’s customers hostage while firing off shots. Those got a lot of media coverage and there were copycats.

There were thousands of bombings throughout the 70s from Weather Underground and other Far Left hate groups.
