Was President Trump Chosen by God? (Video at source)

*snip*

When I told my friend that I had reservations about her Trump-as-chosen-by-God assertion, she sent me a video in which evangelical prophesier Pastor Kim Clement had prophesied Trump’s rise to the presidency long before Mr. Trump came down the escalator and announced his candidacy. Watching the 2007 clip, it seemed a singular prediction; though Trump had spoken about seeking the presidency over the years, he didn’t float credible balloons about it until 2012. And from the moment he announced in 2015 and definitely after, the idea of a President Trump was perceived not only as the longest shot of long shots, but a laugh-out-loud joke.

But in a hair-raising 2007 sermon, invoking the words “Trump” and “Trumpet,” Clement spoke the words that a significant number of evangelicals now believe were a true prophesy.

I had never heard of Kim Clement. As a practicing Catholic, my exposure to evangelical leaders and preaching came mostly by way of men like Franklin Graham (Rev. Billy Graham was a religious paragon in our Catholic household going back to my childhood), Robert Jeffress, and the many pastors and ministers whose sermons I enjoy watching on television. Accustomed to spiritually meditative and ritual-observing participation at Mass, I found the lively evangelical and Protestant services affirming in their religiosity, and my sense was the enjoyment of witnessing such a service was in no way disrespectful to my Catholic faith.

*snip

Watching Clement preach took “lively” to the next level. Here was a man, a prophet, apparently predicting years before any credible observer would give him credence, that God Himself would choose, of all people, Donald Trump, and vault him into the presidency of the greatest nation on earth.

the idea of a President Trump was perceived not only as the longest shot of long shots, but a laugh-out-loud joke.

This is where so much of the media and journalists miss the boat. The Vast Majority of regular Joe middle class Americans saw Donald J Trump as unstoppable and that from the Moment he announced, it was His game to Lose!!

I might add, he did pull some rather odd moves that seemed boneheaded, but they all seemed to pay off in the end?? Nevertheless, it was His Game from the Beginning.

In 2011 at Thanksgiving dinner I mentioned that Trump should run for President. My father reacted in disbelief! God bless ya, Dad.

Didn’t Ann Coulter predict the same thing?

FWIW, I DO believe God had something to do with Trump’s almost inexplicable feat in toppling a long line of Republican challengers. Remember those debates?

These “evangelical prophesiers” are charlatans, or mixed up believers, at best.

Read Paul.

When I was a teen, I predicted a “President Trump” way back in the 80s... But at that time, it was as a likely Anti-Christ. I compared him to “Damien Thorn”. Ha ha! I thank God for him, now.

And I do not and can not discount the idea of divine intervention. It was His Game to lose, and just in the nick of time for the salvation of this country.

Thank You God.

I believe he was.

Perhaps he was. The country seems to be divided between those who believe that Trump is a gift from God and those who believe Trump is God’s punishment.

What's hilarious is that THE MEDIA/NETWORK ESTABLISHMENT WANTED TRUMP TO BECOME THE NOMINEE BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT HE WAS THE ONE MOST LIKELY TO LOSE AGAINST HILLARY.

ROFL!

God appoints and removes all world leaders for His purposes.
Even Obama.

God has always sent us a “Savior for the American Republic” when we needed one most. Washington, Lincoln, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Reagan, Trump. Some might say we were lucky, but a majority say and believe it was God’s leadership and direction. I choose our Lord, God Almighty and his only beloved son, Jesus Christ.

Obama, on the other hand was the agent of SATAN, the Devil himself!!!

IMO, it’s the only thing that can explain Trump’s election given the massive effort made by the left and the media to keep him out.

A very interesting article. I appreciate where Mr. Ellis is coming from very much, but I think he needs to re-think the idea of God's Omnipotence "bigly" as they say. :) The biblical case is that EVERY leader is put into place via the providence of God.

Mr. Ellis says at one point he finds it difficult to believe:

"...God purposely chose a flawed, at times unrepentantly sinful man to be the representative of His divine intentions, the enactor of his plan to restore the way of the Christian path for His earthly flock....

One wonders if Mr. Ellis thought of: Moses the hotheaded, David the killer/adulterer, Jacob the homewrecker and deceiver, Jonah the racist, Matthew the government apparatchik, Paul the killer....or even Cyrus the conqueror or Nebuchadnezzar the prideful. All of these were people with big time problems. The pages of scripture are FILLED with imperfect, fallen men who are used by Yahweh to achieve His purposes.

In fact, this truth should make us fall to our knees in worship and pray God uses us to make a positive impact to those in our lives! We know we're not worthy. We know the wickedness in our hearts. Yet God saves us anyway. And whether God saved Cyrus or Nebuchadnezzar (or Pilate or King Agrippa or Constantine) we don't know--but it seems clear God uses even the secular, apparently impenitent sinners to accomplish His will.

I would say we don't know what the END of Trump's time in office will portend. We don't know because we don't know the future. But we can be confident he isn't there by accident.

Not every leader follows God or is righteous. But God is sovereign in all the affairs of this world; from the number and placement of rocks on the seabed to the arrangement of the galaxies and everything in between.

Obama was there because God had a purpose for putting such a man in power. Same with Trump.

A hard teaching for me to accept in the former case, but that is what I believe.

I appreciate that Mr. Ellis noted the scripture from Daniel at the end of his article. I hope he thinks long and hard about the truth there.
