Biologist Gets a Fake Star Trek Paper Accepted by 4 Dodgy Science Journals
Science Alert ^ | February 14, 2018 | Peter Dockrill

Obviously travelling at warp speed isn't a natural state of existence for most terrestrial organisms, but we never knew just how harmful the effects of maximum warp velocities could be on human beings – until now. A new study published – yes, published – in an 'American' science journal (and accepted by three others) details how an experimental attempt to cross the transwarp barrier and achieve Warp 10 can have devastating and unforeseen consequences on human physiology. Wait… what?

There are claims that if one uses published papers are a measure of knowledge, human knowledge supposedly doubles every few years. This shows that using published papers is a crappy measure of knowledge as 99.9999% of what is published is utter crap.

I actually read an article (possibly here on FR) that Academics are so heavily pressured to load up on published articles, and legit Journals limited in space to publish, there’s been an explosion of “low-end” Journals that for a $$$ fee will publish whatever you send them. And there you go. Academic excellence, published.

He had to go use the most infamous episode in all sci-fi TV history, too.

But the “consensus” of “scientists” reviewing the article declared it spiffy.

....human knowledge supposedly doubles every few years...

Too bad intelligence doesn't keep up with that 99.9999% utter crap of "gained knowledge".

No doubt. My only point was these low end Journals don’t give a rip about your “science”. They’re in it for the $$$ fee.

Apparently, she’s very triggered about the fact she had to wear such costumes.

Makes you tired, really.

On Terra we use the phrase pair to denote two and not one.

My guess is it would’ve been accepted by more journals if they had added something about globalwarming to the title.

Warp Speed and Warp Drive are science fiction that, as of now, have no chance of becoming reality. Yet we have these publications printing this tripe as Hypothetical Fact. What is Next, a paper on Han Solo making the Kessel Run in 12 Parsecs?????????????

No. that’s obviously fake and impossible. However, one of these journals will be publishing a scholarly paper by the Drone De-makly-Afinskaw (de-milled) on the various technics of displacement use during the Iridian war as compared to today’s usage on General Service Vehicles. Should be very enlightening.

Good thing they didn't ask me to review their paper, I could have spotted it as bogus.

The author alleges that a speed of warp factor 10 induces irreversible changes in physiology, rapid evolution into a slimy amphibian state, as in one episode of the Star Trek Voyager series.

A true trekkie would know that the warp 10 barrier had already been broken without ill effect, in the Star Trek TOS episodes where Enterprise was hijacked by aliens and flown to another galaxy. Their top speed was warp 17 IIRC.

And Counselor Troie is very yummy but irrelevant, being from another series (Star Trek TNG). If you're going to lie in your paper, don't make it so obvious!
