A Parkersburg, WV mother said a visit to Charleston Area Medical Center's Women and Children's Hospital left her feeling disgusted. Using her cell phone Cassandra Shields documented what she described as filthy conditions and posted the pictures and video and social media.
"It was not an experience that I thought I would ever have in a hospital," she said.
Desperate for answers about her daughter's illness Shield's made the drive to the CAMC emergency room. She said she was shocked by what she saw.
"When we first walked in I noticed there were dirty tissues laying on the ground used gloves and even face masks laying on the ground," Shield's said.

I couldn’t tell if these complaints were related to ONLY the public areas and restrooms of a busy hospital emergency room.
They can get pretty bad when they are very busy, even in a top hospital——especially in urban areas.
The public can be slobs.
.
Their media player is all messed up, I can’t load any video on any computer.
But my recent trip to the ER showed me the same struggle. All it takes is about 4 hours of no cleaning crew.
the people there just throw garbage on the floor. No one cares. I actually tracked in mud and I picked up paper towels and started to clean my foot prints (Lead right to my seat) and the staff thanked me like I put out a fire.
The child’s room as well.
I posted this because the comment section on facebook is loaded with people complaining about all the CAMC hospitals being dirty.
wanted to know if other freepers in other cities have has this problem of dirty hospitals.
One time during New Years Eve a local hospital ER was filthy when I came in. Okay given the time and day I get it.
This...a child’s room in Feburary? Plus others are saying the place is a mess. ICK
My brother was in a hospital in Oct and Nov. Whatever they used on the floor made the floor sticky. We were there everyday when the housekeeper came in so we knew they cleaned it.
We thought it might be some kind of disinfectant but you literally stuck to the floor with each step. The bottoms of our shoes were normally black from walking through the parking lot and our footprints were often visible.
I did not see that she was admitted-—I assumed she meant the ER examining room.
.
I read the article, but couldn’t get the video to stream. Well, I could but it was so choppy and BS that I couldn’t get past the first 15 seconds.
I’m sure it was disgusting. America is turning into a 3rd world sh!thole.
I remember at the nursing home all of the islanders would come there to work and they would treat it like a clinic in port-au-prince. The workers were the worst.
Now today all of our culture is totally destroyed for such signs of respect. If Alexa can’t be pleaded with to clean it, who will clean it?
Well CAMC has cut support positions. Budget shortfalls due to declining reimbursement.
Ive been in or at three hospitals in Oregon in the past 90 days. Albany General ER, Corvallis Regional, and PeaceHealth Riverbend in Eugene. All spotless. Staff at all cared about patients.
Shockingly, even the food was good. I stayed at Riverbend three days. One of the meals was restraunt quality. Perhaps I was just hungry, though. I hadnt eaten in 30 hours.
However, pretty much every hospital in the country has a strict 'no photography' policy and is usually prominently posted. She better get a lawyer.
London ... Charleston ... What’s the difference?
Why didnt she complain to staff?
ERs can get overwhelmed. They will get housekeeping down to clean when complaints are made
Precisely
If she had complained to staff they would have gotten housekeeping on it
With the numbers they are seeing in ERs because this flu season Im surprised anyones still on their feet
Wait until we are completely Soviet. I’ve been inside one of those in Moscow and it was pretty amazing - and not in a good way.
The hospitals by me are pristine. Then again, we have tort reform caps.
I would bet the gloves and masks are from visitors. I see them laying around our hospital. And trust me...if you are not gloved yourself you learn real fast not to touch anything near patients.
Have you ever been in a busy, urban emergency room late on a Saturday night?
NONE are pristine.
.
My mom died at Corvallis Regional.
They were professional and took good care of her.
Several years ago the Fox crew from “Cops” went to Russia. After a stabbing by some Azerbaijanis, the crew went to the Moscow ER to see how the victim was being treated. The conditions were shocking. I’ve seen cleaner mens’ restrooms at truck stops.
