Anyone know of anyone coming from North Carolina to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in the next 3-4 weeks who could put the 3/4 ton truck on a trailer or tow it with a tow bar to TX for a fee? Please private message me if you know someone. Helping a conservative fellow who is going to restore it & needs it in Texas.

Tow it with a tow bar? I would have the drive shafts dropped before doing that...

Yes, the fella knows that. Need to find someone coming to TX anyway who would like to have $450-500 in gas money to cover the trip if they’re already bringing a trailer (dead-heading) over or have room on a trailer.

Start shopping the transport services online. They bid against each other and it gets cheap quick. You just may have to wait a bit.

Should not be much to transport—maybe $750 on a flatbed to TX? I would not flat-tow it, though.

Would you have any contacts that could do it for $575-600 due to budget concerns? I believe the fella can get it running to drive up on the trailer. Just has old tires, no windshield & not inspected. So, can’t drive it here.

No. You can’t flat tow it because of the tires and bearings. Also, most transportation companies will charge extra if the vehicle is not in good running condition. If you are going to flatbed an inop vehicle halfway across the country, you have to expect to pay...

This would have to be on a trailer. Those old tires would cost more on the side of the road than having it shipped by air. Towing with a tow bar relies on the towed vehicles tires same as driving it. Finding someone to replace those old suicide wheels would be near impossible on a road service call.

Do any freight trains run that route? I know people some times have their cars transported by train when they will fly, so I would imagine the same option would be available for a truck?

What you said. I have done this several times, once for an old Dodge power wagon which is in the same general class.
Use the transport services, call several, although you will eventually find out you’re talking to the same people, and be prepared to wait two or three months if you want the best price they use a less than truckload shipping model and will get to yours when it fits the puzzle.
Don’t tow it yourself with a towbar, unless you’ve got a monster to pull it as you’re basically pulling a 3 ton unbraked trailer. You don’t want your new project in the ditch and up your @ss when some moron cuts you off.

My son used Horizon Transport to bring a cool old truck from Oregon a few years ago. They specialize in RV transport, but will do other vehicles to cover costs versus having no load. Good people!
