The Chinese Peoples Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) has flown its new top-the-line Russian-made Sukhoi Su-35 Flanker-E air superiority fighters over the South China Sea to cement Beijing's claim over the region. The PLAAF is also rumored to have deployed its newly operational Chengdu J-20 fifth-generation stealth fighters to the region.
"The Chinese air force recently sent its Su-35 fighter jets to take part in a joint combat patrol over the South China Sea," according to a release from the Chinese Ministry of Defense. "This is the first time the People's Liberation Army Air Force has made public the deployment of its Su-35s, built by Russia's Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Production Association and introduced to China in late 2016."
According to the Chinese Defense Ministry, the PLAAF did not reveal exactly when the overflight took place. Nor is there any indication as to how many Su-35s participated in the exercisebut China is known to have purchased 24 of the aircraft from Moscow. Moreover, the official Chinese government release did not make any reference to the J-20, which the PLAAF recently declared to be operational. Regional media, however, is reporting that the advanced stealth aircraft are present in the region and are taking part in the Chinese patrols of the South China Sea.

At least that was my intent. :)

I’m a grumpy Gweilo who’s Chinese should be far better than it is since I received an earned Ph.D. from a university in the PRC. Who are you?
I’m a Gweilo who lived in Beijing for a while, back when they still wore Mao jackets.
Came back just before Tian an Men happened. Haven’t been back there since. Am currently in Vietnam.
Nice to meet you.
I liven in HK for 17 years and Wuhan for 4. Been on Guam since 2012
Yes I have seen your posts occasionally.
Nice to meet you. I speak a (bit) of Mandarin, my pronunciation is good, but I have a sort of limited vocabulary. I am trying to learn Vietnamese, but having a heck of a time at it thus far, I don’t know why I am having much more difficulty, learning Vietnamese.
Having fun though.
Good meeting you.
Nope, just found a translation engine. :)
