Illinois has been losing population for four years. The states outmigration crisis is so bad that Illinois has dropped from the fifth-largest to the sixth-largest state, falling behind Pennsylvania. Since 2010, the Land of Lincoln lost a whopping 640,000 people on net to outmigration. The state is shrinking so rapidly that its at risk of losing a House seat.
Illinoiss people problem is nothing to shrug off, because it indicates the state economy is on pace to continue its decline. And if nothing changes, people will just keep leaving.
So whats wrong with Illinois?
Terrible economic policies.
Illinois ranks near the bottom in terms of economic freedom compared with the rest of the country, according to the Fraser Institutes recent Economic Freedom of North America, or EFNA, report, released in partnership with the Illinois Policy Institute. This report ranks states based on an index of 10 variables related to government spending, taxes and labor market freedom. Only 12 states were ranked lower. Unsurprisingly, blue states California and New York ranked at the bottom of the economic freedom list.
Pennsylvania, which just overtook Illinois as the fifth-largest state in the U.S., ranks 18th on the index of economic freedom, compared with Illinois 35th place ranking.
While Illinois continues to shrink, states that rank near the top of the Fraser Institutes economic freedom rankings are growing. Since the last recession ended in 2009, population in the 10 most-free states has grown 2.5 times faster than it has in the 10 least-free states. Employment and income have also grown faster in the freer states.

Illinois politicians will explain that the miseducated public simply lacks the generosity of spirit required to serve the needs of a genuinely caring government. :)
Sounds like California. States controlled by Democrats are generally in deep financial straits and are quickly becoming the sh!t hole states. They will drag the entire country into their sewer if they arent stopped.
“Progressivism” just works so well! Next stop Venezuela.
I like in Illinois and am already planning my escape. I refuse to buy property here because the property tax is basically legalized theft that has zero relation to actual property values. As soon as I find the perfect place in Indiana I am as good as gone.
I live right across river in MO. Thus we are blessed with Illinois election ads. The Republican running for re-election for governor is running an ad of FBI recordings of conversations of his Democratic opponent had with Blagoavich.
The Democrat promises to raise taxes on the rich, establish universal health care, etc.,etc.

Sell Chicago to China or Dubai.
The dictators never cares about the people. They live high on the hog no matter what. Expect no change.
Driving from Wisconsin into rural Illinois is always a view of a tale of two cities for sure. Rural Illinois is depressed yet there are no shortage of Union Proud signs on each of the run down dilapidated homes. I find it best to always have a full tank of gas since many towns in the boonies don’t have any grocery stores or gas stations!
Downstate IL is beautiful. It’s Chicago that’s destroying the state.
Alaska and Mississippi are “least free”?
Please explain.
I visit Illinois once a year to visit kinfolk. The last town I pass through leaving Colorado is Burlington. The last town I pass through entering Illinois is Burlington. This is very mysterious to me and must have some metaphysical meaning I have yet to unravel.
Yup, just like LA and San Francisco destroying CA

Otherwise, everything is fine.
They just need to double the number of public employees and add more government agencies. Then there will be more cash flow in the economy.

When I cross the border exiting Illinois I always say its nice to be back in the USA.
